10. Summary of thesis results:
Based on the study of Community Psychosocial Support for the Elderly in Bac Ninh Province. The survey results show that:
In the locality under survey, the Elderly Association is an organization that
The elderly participate in the largest number. The place of participation is concentrated in the residential area. The Elderly Association provides some support in the spiritual and material life as well as organizes health training activities for the elderly in the area.
Research results show that the elderly man received support
In daily activities, men receive more help from friends and former colleagues than women, and women receive more support from neighbors than men. The support of family members for the elderly between men and women is similar.
In terms of age, the older the elderly, the higher the level of social support. Elderly people in the "young" age group receive less support from family and outside the family, the reason is that the elderly can still work or take care of themselves, so they need less support. On the contrary, the older the elderly, the more aging, accompanied by illness and sickness, requires more support than the previous age, and often the regular support is from family members. Elderly people over 70 years old receive more support than those under 70 years old.
This study shows that most elderly people are not only attached to their own families but also actively participate in relationships outside the family so they receive support from family and outside the family.
However, in all the psychosocial support in the relationships of the elderly, most of the elderly appreciate the relationship with their children and grandchildren in the family, they consider the family as the safest and most important support. This is completely consistent with the tradition and psychology of the Vietnamese people who highly value family. On the other hand, there are some elderly people who only maintain relationships within the family and do not or participate very little in relationships outside the family, which limits the psychosocial support outside of society for the elderly.
A small number of elderly people in the research sample are lonely elderly people, which are elderly people who are past working age and for some reason have to live alone or, although they depend on relatives, are still lonely, lacking material or spiritual needs and need certain support from the community and society.
The elderly's perception of mood had a relatively strong and statistically significant positive correlation with caregivers' cognitive, emotional and work support methods. There were statistically significant differences between the support methods. Emotional support was the most frequently performed by caregivers, and cognitive support was the least frequently performed by caregivers for the elderly.
