10. Summary of the thesis results:

Based on research on community-based psychosocial support for the elderly in Bac Ninh province, the survey results show that:

In the locality being surveyed, the Senior Citizens' Association is the organization that...

The elderly are the most numerous participants. Activities are concentrated in their residential areas. The Elderly Association provides some support in terms of spiritual and material well-being, as well as organizing health and fitness activities for the elderly in the area.

The research results show that the elderly man received support.

In daily life, the elderly man receives more assistance from friends and former colleagues than the elderly woman, and the elderly woman receives more support from neighbors than the elderly man. The support from family members for the elderly is similar between the elderly man and the elderly woman.

In terms of age, the older the elderly, the greater the level of social support they need. Older adults receive less support from family and outside the family because they are still able to work or care for themselves, thus requiring less assistance. Conversely, older adults experience aging, along with illness and disease, requiring more support than younger age groups, and this support usually comes from family members. Elderly people over 70 years old receive more support than those under 70.

This study shows that the majority of older adults are not only closely connected to their own families but also actively participate in relationships outside of their families, thus receiving support from both family and external sources.

However, among all forms of psychosocial support in the relationships of the elderly, most older adults highly value their relationships with their children and grandchildren, considering family as the safest and most important support system. This is entirely consistent with Vietnamese tradition and psychology, which highly values family. On the other hand, some older adults maintain only family relationships and participate very little or no in relationships outside the family, which limits the psychosocial support they receive from society.

A small proportion of the elderly in the study sample were lonely elderly people, those who had reached retirement age for one reason or another and had to live alone, or who, although dependent on relatives, still felt lonely and lacked material or emotional support, and therefore needed certain assistance from the community and society.

The emotional state of older adults showed a relatively strong and statistically significant positive correlation with the cognitive, emotional, and work-related support provided by caregivers. The support methods differed significantly. Emotional support was the most frequently provided by caregivers, while cognitive support was the least frequently provided.

They need more support than they were before, and often the support is often family members. Older people over 70 years of age receive much more support than older people under the age of 70.

This is in line with the tradition and psychology of the Vietnamese, who attach importance to the family. On the other hand, there are some sections of the elderly that maintain family ties without or very little involvement in relationships outside of the family, which limit the social psychological support to the elderly.

- A minority of elderly people in the sample are elderly lonely people, those who are out of work age for some reason they have to live alone or live on relatives but still lonely, lacking in material or spiritual need to receive certain support from the community, society.
