The school's trade union, with the implementation of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education, affirms the position and role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Not long after the Independence Day of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, on October 10, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 45/SL to establish the University of Letters in Hanoi with the aim of bringing the country's science to "keep up with the pace of advanced countries in the world". On June 4, 1956, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2183/CP to establish Hanoi University of Science. From 1956 to 1995 was a period of strong development of the University as the leading center for basic science research and training in the country, effectively serving the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. A team of professors and leading scientists of the country worked, contributing their strength and intelligence here. The most basic foundations of Vietnamese science were built and affirmed their value.
In September 1995, on the basis of the Social Sciences and Humanities of Hanoi University of Science, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was officially established and became a core member of Hanoi National University. During 80 years of construction and development, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has always been considered by the Party and State of Vietnam as the largest center for training and research in social sciences and humanities in the country, with the task of training a team of highly qualified basic science staff, serving the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.
Along with the development of the School, in recent years, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi has become increasingly strong and developed in all aspects. With the motto of concentrating resources and creating a strong change in the quality and effectiveness of trade union activities; performing well the task of representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of trade union members, to consolidate and strengthen the close connection between trade union members and trade union organizations, contributing to building a strong Trade Union organization. On that basis, the School Trade Union sets out the goal of innovating the content and methods of trade union activities of departments, representing and protecting the legitimate and legitimate rights and interests of teachers and workers; organizing widely patriotic emulation movements and industry campaigns; propagating and mobilizing and participating in innovation in management work; Training and fostering union officials, building the School's Union stronger and stronger, contributing to fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education, and soon making the University of Social Sciences and Humanities a research university.
During the 2023-2025 term, under the direction of the Party Committee of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Trade Union of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Executive Committee of the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has focused on directing and effectively implementing key tasks, programs and plans, and trade union activities have achieved good results. The staff and civil servants always make efforts, overcome difficulties, and strive to successfully complete the set targets, tasks and plans.
1. Innovate and improve the quality and effectiveness of political and ideological education and propaganda work, promote emulation movements, strengthen solidarity, and mobilize all resources to build and develop the School.
The highlight of the past term is the strong innovation in propaganda and education work. The Union has effectively utilized modern information channels such as websites, social networks (Facebook, Zalo), email... to propagate and disseminate the policies and guidelines of the Party, the State and the Industry to spread quickly and widely, 100% of union members have been updated with information in a timely manner.
Ideological education is cleverly integrated through exciting and meaningful collective activities such as: organizing cultural, artistic and sports activities; combining field trips and practical learning at "red addresses", historical and cultural relics of the nation, watching historical films.
These activities not only foster ideals and love for the profession but also act as a bridge connecting comrades and colleagues, creating a united and strong collective. Thereby helping cadres grasp the policies, guidelines and regulations of the authorities at all levels, especially the issues being implemented by the education sector; 100% of union members are educated, propagandized and disseminated the Party's guidelines, policies and laws of the State and the resolutions of the Trade Unions at all levels. The vast majority of VCNLD are steadfast in political ideology, feel secure in their work, maintain the moral qualities of teachers and complete well the assigned tasks. 2. Work to care for the lives, protect the legitimate rights and interests of civil servants and employees; participate in management and build harmonious and stable labor relations.
With the motto "Where there are civil servants and workers, there is a Trade Union", the work of caring for and protecting workers has always been identified as the core, continuous and most important task of the School Trade Union. During the past term, the Trade Union has clearly affirmed its role as a trustworthy representative, always standing side by side with union members through specific actions:
2.1. Actively participate in management and building harmonious and stable labor relations
The Union proactively participates in building the school year plan, building regulations for staff: Internal spending regulations; Regulations on management decentralization and operating procedures at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; regulations on funeral work for civil servants and employees.
Actively coordinate with the School to organize staff conferences, promptly grasp the thoughts and aspirations of union members to propose effective and appropriate solutions to help union members perform their functions and tasks well. Direct the People's Inspectorate to coordinate with functional departments to monitor and inspect the implementation of internal rules and regulations on teaching and learning.
The Union continues to launch the movement "Building a civilized and polite working environment" and effectively implement the project to build a set of cultural rules for communication and behavior in schools.
In the context of streamlining the apparatus according to the Party's policy, the Trade Union has proactively participated with the government in developing a project and implementing the streamlining work to ensure that the streamlining is carried out in the most appropriate and effective manner in accordance with practical conditions, ensuring harmonious and stable labor relations. 2.2 Carry out well the work of caring for the lives, representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of civil servants and employees.
The School Union always identifies caring for the lives and representing and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of employees as an important task; always focuses on taking care of the health of union members. Every year, the School Union proactively develops plans and organizes regular health check-ups for all employees with an average budget of more than 500 million VND/year, helping union members feel secure in their work, promptly detect and treat diseases.
Directing the departmental trade unions to promptly encourage and visit union members and relatives of VCNLĐ. During the 2023 - 2025 term, the Trade Union organized visits and timely subsidies for 45 sick VCNLĐs; celebrated the marriages of 03 cadres, and visited 55 funerals. This activity has become a cultural feature, strengthening solidarity and attachment between union members and the trade union. Some units that have done this work well include: the History Faculty Trade Union, the Philosophy Faculty Trade Union, the Management Science Faculty Trade Union, the Department of Administration Block I Trade Union... The School Trade Union promptly reviewed and requested the higher-level trade union to visit and support 25 cadres with especially difficult circumstances on the occasion of Lunar New Year, Workers' Month, International Women's Day March 8, Vietnamese Women's Day October 20...
Organized to reward and encourage nearly 700 excellent students who are children of union members, organized to give gifts to children of school staff and employees on the occasion of June 1 and Mid-Autumn Festival.
The "Humanity" Fund continues to be maintained effectively, becoming a great source of encouragement. During the term, the fund has supported 05 union members with special circumstances with a total amount of 30 million VND.
Cultural and spiritual activities are focused on organizing such as: organizing cultural, artistic and sports activities; organizing exchanges between VCNLD and artists of the Vietnam Tuong Theater, with directors and filmmakers... contributing to improving the cultural and spiritual life of VCNLD.
The 2023-2025 term has many changes, but the School Union has truly affirmed its role as a common home, a solid support, connecting and spreading stability, helping each union member feel secure in contributing and developing.

2.3. Actively support the activities of the School's Alumni Association
The School Union is active and proactive in sponsoring activities for the School's Alumni Association: Supporting the School's Alumni Association to successfully organize 04 field trips and surveys in Lang Son, Hung Yen, and Hoa Binh. Supporting the Association to successfully organize seminars and exchanges to help connect members. Every year, the Union coordinates with the Alumni Association to visit and encourage former teachers and meet and wish all members a Happy New Year on the occasion of Lunar New Year.
3. Accompany the government, encourage and support union members to actively participate in training, scientific research, and improve professional qualifications and skills, contributing to quickly building the School into a research university.
With the goal of accompanying the School to contribute to improving the professional capacity of the VCNLĐ team, the School's trade union identifies the important task of accompanying, awakening the potential and providing practical support to union members, especially young staff and lecturers, on the path of professional and academic development.
To realize that goal, the Union has listened to the thoughts and grasped the practical difficulties of union members as a basis for organizing a series of seminars and training sessions with topics that "correctly and accurately" meet the needs of union members. During the 2023 - 2025 term, the Union organized 5 seminars associated with professional activities, supporting union members to improve their skills and qualifications.
These activities have been creating open and useful academic forums. More importantly, this is an opportunity for each VCNLĐ, especially young VCNLĐ, to self-assess and evaluate the skills that need to be improved such as foreign languages, technology, research methods, etc. From there, each staff member can build a suitable self-training roadmap, step more firmly on the career path and contribute directly to the overall development of the School. Departmental unions actively participate in professional work, supporting union members to improve their professional capacity such as: History Faculty Union, Information - Library Faculty Union, Management Science Faculty Union, III Departmental Union, etc. 4. Women's work, cultural and sports activities, social and charitable activities serving the community have many innovations that create widespread influence.
4.1. Women's work has many innovations
With nearly 63% of the staff being female, women's work is always one of the tasks that receives special attention. The Women's Committee has constantly innovated its working methods, focusing on taking care of spiritual life, helping women balance between work and family.
Women's activities are organized in a diverse and practical manner, creating a strong impression: The Women's Committee directly organizes or coordinates with departmental unions to successfully organize Talkshows on family happiness and life skills such as: The activities have attracted a large number of staff to attend, creating an environment for communication and connection between staff and students and enhancing soft skills for VCNLĐ.
During the past term, female union members have affirmed their core role in all aspects of work, from teaching, scientific research to administration and management. 98.5% of female VCNLĐ have completed their tasks well and continuously studied to improve their professional qualifications and perfect their titles. The mark of female union members in scientific research is increasingly evident, demonstrated through the chairing of many important topics at all levels and the publication of prestigious scientific articles at home and abroad. In particular, the team of female cadres has affirmed their excellent leadership capacity, with 55 female VCNLĐ holding positions of party management, government and union work at the Faculty and School levels, contributing greatly to the overall achievements of the School.
Not only are they excellent in their profession, female union members are also the ones who "keep the fire" for their families, raise good children, and study well. The movements "Good at school - good at home", "Good mother - good child" have become a source of pride, spreading good values. Many female cadres have children who have achieved the title of excellent student; many have children who have won high prizes in excellent student competitions at school, district, city and national levels.
Actively participate in women's activities launched by the superior union such as the movement "Good at school - good at housework", "Ao Dai Week", "Ao Dai Festival", campaign to support VNU female union members to overcome difficulties, exchange activities, and survey tours on the occasion of March 8 organized by the VNU Trade Union in Vinh Phuc and Son Tay. The women's work is highly appreciated by the superior union. In 2024, the female VCNLĐ collective of the School was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Vietnam Education Trade Union.
The School's Trade Union has done a good job of taking care of the spiritual life of female VCNLĐ. Timely encouraging, visiting and giving gifts to female VCNLĐ on the occasion of March 8 and October 20; actively organizing activities to give gifts, meet and exchange with children of civil servants and workers on the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival and International Children's Day June 1.
Some typical units in women's activities can be mentioned as: Faculty of Literature Union, Union II, III of the Administrative Block, Faculty of Linguistics, Vietnamese & Vietnam Studies, Faculty of International Studies, Institute of Journalism & Communication Training, Faculty of Management Science...
4.2. Cultural and sports work
Cultural and sports activities were organized effectively. The School Union directed the Cultural and Sports Committee to successfully organize the "Table Tennis Exchange" tournament in 2023, 2024, 2025 and the Cultural and Sports Program to celebrate major holidays, especially Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20 every year.
Actively participate in the VNU Cadre Football Tournament in 2023, 2024, 2025 and continuously from 2023, 2024 to win the Championship Cup; actively participate in cultural and sports activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Government's promulgation of the Decree on VNU. Win a collective prize in the series of VNU Family Day activities in 2023, 2024 organized by the Trade Union of the National University of Hanoi; participate in the Football exchange of the 5 University Trade Unions, maintain the sports training activities of the Football Club and Table Tennis Club regularly every week to help cadres have a useful sports playground and maintain physical strength. Cultural and sports activities have helped connect and spread the spirit of Humanity in each VCNLĐ.
Actively implementing a series of cultural and sports activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of communication and the 30th anniversary of the School's establishment. Cultural and sports activities organized by the School's Trade Union have contributed to building a united environment, raising awareness of improving the mental and physical health of the School's union members, motivating union members to contribute to professional activities, in order to promote the School's position. 4.3. Social and charitable activities serving the community
Not only doing a good job of taking care of the lives of union members in the School, the School's Trade Union has also done a good job of social activities. Following the principle of drinking water, remembering its source, every year the School's Trade Union has organized many social, charitable and gratitude activities. On the occasion of July 27, it organized a delegation of cadres to visit and give gifts to nursing centers for war invalids, centers for nurturing children affected by dioxin, and gave gifts to nursing centers for war invalids in Ninh Binh, Nghe An and Quang Binh.
Most union members actively participate in social charity activities, community service organized by unions at all levels such as the movement to support floods in the Northern and Central mountainous areas, the education program in remote mountainous areas, etc. In particular, in 2023, the School Union coordinated with VIBE organization to donate 400 Ao Dai to new female students in difficult circumstances, mobilized support for supplies to 150 students in especially difficult circumstances with a total budget of 88,340,000; actively participated in the campaign "accompanying VNU female staff to overcome difficulties", donated 56,415,000, supported people affected by floods with a total of more than 550 million VND. In 2025, union members in the whole School donated at least one day's salary each to support people in the Northern provinces affected by floods.
The School Trade Union and the Trade Unions of 5 Universities annually organize social and charitable activities, support the construction of new classrooms, give gifts and objects to many schools in Nghe An and Lang Son such as: support the construction of boarding houses for students of Bac Ai I Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities, Bac Ai village, De Tham commune, Trang Dinh, Lang Son, Chiem Hoa High School, Tuyen Quang province (now Ha Giang). 5. Innovate the content and methods of operation; carry out well the emulation and reward work, build a strong Trade Union organization, and participate in Party building.
5.1. Proactively innovate the content and methods of operation, improve the quality of operations and capacity of union officials.
The School Union constantly innovates the content and methods of operation with the motto "Innovation to connect", in order to improve the effectiveness and influence of the organization to each union member and VCNLĐ. Proactively register and effectively implement programs to improve the quality of School activities in the period 2024 - 2026.
Actively innovate training methods: Organize professional training for union officials in new and creative forms, combining theory and practice, increasing interaction and experience exchange. 100% of union officials receive professional training, thereby helping to improve the quality and efficiency of union activities. 5.2. Promote and effectively implement emulation movements
Actively respond to major emulation movements of the industry and the whole country such as: "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style", "Good at schoolwork, good at housework", "Innovation and creativity in teaching and learning", competitions launched by superior trade unions and campaigns to support education in disadvantaged areas.
Every year, the union proactively launches emulation programs at the Conference of civil servants and employees; launches and effectively maintains the movement "Building a civilized and polite office", contributing to creating a green, clean and beautiful working environment. Many units actively respond and achieve high results such as the Union of the Faculty of History, Archival Science & Office Management, Philosophy, Linguistics, the Unions of the Department of Administration...
Summarizing the patriotic emulation movement for the period 2020 - 2025, the whole School has 45 individuals recognized as typical examples of the patriotic emulation movement. The School's Trade Union was awarded a certificate of merit by the Vietnam Education Trade Union in recognition of being a typical unit in the patriotic emulation movement for the period 2020 - 2025.
5.3. Actively arrange and improve the organization, promote the development of union members and participate in Party building.
During the past term, the School Trade Union promptly completed the personnel of the Executive Committee of 07 departmental trade unions. Seriously implemented the work of arranging and streamlining the apparatus, organizing the consolidation of 04 departmental trade unions (CDBP) and dissolving 01 CDBP, reducing the total number of focal points from 22 CDBP to 19 CDBP (as of September 2025).
Well implemented the work of developing union members and participating in Party building. During the term, admitted 28 new union members; sent 28 union members to attend Party sympathy classes, introduced 20 outstanding union members to join the Communist Party of Vietnam.
5.4. Carry out emulation and reward work well
The monitoring and evaluation of the activities of the Border Guards is carried out closely and transparently, creating a basis for effective rewards. Every year, 100% of the Border Guards achieve the title of "Good completion of tasks", of which 30% achieve the title of "Excellent completion of tasks".
In more than 2 years, 41 groups and nearly 300 union members were awarded at all levels, including groups and individuals who achieved high awards such as Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister, Certificates of Merit from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, Emulation Fighters at the Ministry level...
The School's Trade Union continuously achieved the title of Excellent Grassroots Trade Union, received the emulation flag of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Certificate of Merit of the Vietnam Education Trade Union.
