Meeting with the delegation of Ocean University of China

On September 13th, 2018, Assoc. Prof. Dr Tran Thi Minh Hoa (USSH's Vice Rector) and representatives of Faculty of Oriental Studies, Office for Cooperation and Development, Office for Political and Student Affairs welcomed and worked with the delegation from the Ocean University of China led by Prof. Li Hua Jun (Vice President).

At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr Tran Thi Minh Hoa briefly introduced about USSH. As a leading institution of social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, the University initially started with basic sciences and then expanded to other highly practical disciplines such Management Science, Tourism Studies, and Social Work. USSH currently has 24 bachelor's, 41 master's and 31 doctoral programs and more than 10.000 students. It has signed official MOUs with over 300 foriegn partners. The Vice Rector hoped USSH would soon establish relations with Ocean University of China through such activities as student and lecturer exchanges, co-organizing international conferences and conducting common studies.

Mr. Jin Tian Wu (Director for Social sciences) on behalf of the Chinese side introduced the social and humanities majors of Ocean University of China. The university currently has 7 seven colleges and one teaching center of fundamental courses specializing in social sciences and humanities. Students of social sciences and humanities account for a half of the 28.000 students; and the number of teachers of social sciences and humanities is 1.680, accounting for one third of the total. Among the 12 key research teams there are 5 specializing in social sciences and humanities, namely the Capital efficiency and financial risk analysis, economics of law, children's literature, interdisciplinary research of second language acquisition, and classical literature and traditional culture. 

Prof. Li Hua Jun expressed his thanks to the warm reception by USSH. He said in 1988, the Ocean University of China began to launch its social sciences and humanities majors. He proposed the signing of official MOU between two sides.

Ocean University of China was established in 1924. It belongs to the list of 36 A-Category universities in the Plan of World-class universities released by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It has 28.000 full-time students. Four of its campuses are Yushan, Fusan, Taoshan and Huangdao (in progress of development), covering 20 colleges and schools. It has bilateral relations with over 200 partners from 40 countries and regions, and is member of international multilateral networks such as the International Alliance of Marine-Related Institutions and the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network.
