On October 24th, 2018, Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh (USSH's Rector) and representatives from Faculty of Tourism, Office for Cooperation and Development welcomed the delegation from three universities from Jeju Province (South Korea), Jeju National University, Jeju Tourism University and Cheju Halla University.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh briefly introduced about USSH, a leading institution in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam. The University currently has over 10,000 students and around 500 staff and lecturers. One of its strategic goals is internalization through increasing international publications and relations with foreign partners. The University has formed cooperation with many South Korean universities such as Seoul University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Busan University of Foreign Studies. USSH's Division of Korean studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies is a prestigious unit specializing in Korean studies, with a high number of graduates able to find employment. The Rector hoped USSH would soon begin cooperation with the three universities from Jeju through different activities.

Representatives of the three South Korean universities shared their gratefulness for discussing the potential of cooperation with a prestigious institution in Vietnam such as USSH. Their most focused and prioritized cooperative activity was exchanging students and lecturers through such collaborative models as 2+2 and 3+1. Also, they proposed the co-implementation of research projects and co-holding of international conferences on topics related to tourism, hotel management, community development and tourism economics. For its part, Jeju National University wanted to cooperate with USSH's Faculty of Oriental Studies in training Korean language.

Prof. Dr Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the ideas put forth by the three universities. For reference, the Rector also introduced some of the summer courses co-held by USSH and its foreign partners such as Humboldt University (Germany), Meji University (Japan), and Zurich University (Switzerland).

Jeju National University, Jeju Tourism University and Cheju Halla University were respectively established in 1952, 1993 and 1969. Located on the beautiful and poetic Jeju island, all of them take advantage of this destination to attract foreign students, primarily through programs in tourism and hotel management. For instance, Jeju National University has attracted 800 foreign students, 100 of whom are Vietnamese.
