Meeting with the representative of KoSASA (South Korea)

On June 19th, 2019, Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh (USSH's Rector) and representatives of Office for Cooperation and Development and Center for Education Assurance welcomed and worked with the representative of the Korean Studies Association in Southeast Asia, Prof.Kwong Geong Ho (Director of the Korean Research Institute, University of New South Wales).

The first topic of the meeting was about the plan to hold KoSASA's 9th Biennial Conference scheduled in September 2020 at USSH. The Conference aims to strengthen cooperation between KoSASA's core members through dicussions and investigation of new orientations for promoting Korean studies in Southeast Asia in the coming time. The papers will focus on the important and urgent issues concerning South Korea's economy, society and culture from the perspective of Southeast Asia.

Next, Prof. Kwon Geong Ho on behalf of University of New South Wales invited USSH's staff and lecturers to the Special regional workshop held by its Korea Research Institute in the next September, whose topic is "State capacity for national development in transition economies in ASEAN and the role of Korea". The workshop aims to identify the challenges faced by ASEAN's transition economies, and compare them to those faced by South Korea in order to draw experiences and lessons. The workshop is expected to further improve the relations between South Korea-ASEAN countries.

On behalf of USSH, Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh highly appreciated the goodwill shown by Prof. Kwon Geong Ho and KoSASA. As the 9th President of KoSASA, the USSH's Rector committed to do his best to ensure the success of its 9th Conference. Also, he would send paper calls to USSH's lecturers and researchers interested in the themes of two said conferences.

KoSASA is an academic organization founded in 2004 at USSH, VNU Ho Chi Minh City according to the cooperation between VNU and New South Wales University and Korea Foundation. It supports and promotes the study and teaching of Korea and apply knowledge in this field in Southeast Asian nations. KoSASA holds a biennial conference to summarize and evaluate the activities of its partner universities and implement or suggest new areas of cooperation. In Vietnam, USSH, VNU Ho Chi Minh City and USSH, VNU Hanoi are two active partners of KoSASA, which used to hold two of its conferences in 2005 and 2012, respectively.
