Three student groups of FIS admitted to the final round of YICMG 2019

The contest "Youth innovation competition on Lantsang-Mekong Region's Governance and Development-YICMG" is held annually under the exchange program of students and youngsters of 6 countries in the Mekong Delta. Until now, three of its final rounds have been held in Qinghai (China), Guangxi (China) and Vientiane (Laos). Every year, over 300 student groups from universities of 6 countries Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, China and Vietnam sent their projects to the Preliminary round of the contest and over 20 of which will be picked for the Final Round.

The topic of YICMG 2019 is "Green production, consumption and social development". Surrounding this topic, USSH's FIS' students groups made creative ideas of using environmentally-friendly products and increasing public understanding of environmental protection.

The group of Truong Ha Ly, Nguyen Thi Linh and Do Thi Ha Anh (60th class of FIS) offered their “Green for Future Website Project” aimed at designing a website that details all the green, environmentally-friendly inventions, patents and products applicable in 6 Mekong countries. Its information is frequently updated to improve the awareness of and practical actions for environmental protection and sustainable development.  

The group of Bui Thi Minh Thuy, Bui Nhat Linh and Nguyen Thi Huong Giang (60th class of FIS) brought the project "Shades of Banana", in which they created products from banana areca that not only were highly artistic but also helped reduce labor surplus at Vietnam's rural areas. The project promotes green production, minimizes agricultural waste, contributing to environmental protection. Through paintings, the project also hoped to bring Vietnamese culture to the world and promote Vietnam's cultural characteristics. 

The group of Nguyen Ngoc Oanh, Nguyen Thi Mien and Nguyen Thi Tam (61th class of FIS) brought the project "Using paper bags made from cornstalk”, in which they produced bags from cornstalk, whose trunk is usually used primarily as fodder. The project plans to distribute these paper bags first of all to convenience stores and then spread them to other targets nationwide. It encourages citizens to use environmentally-friendly paper bags instead of environmentally-damaging plastic bags.

In January, 2019, the three student groups will participate in the Final round of YICMG 2019 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. All expenses will be covered by the organizing committee. There, they will present their ideas before scientists, businessmen and start-up units and organizations. Groups that earn distinguished awards and great acclaim from the start-up organizations will be invited to the Training camp for creative youth in 2019 supposedly held in July 2019 in Shanghai, China.
