10. Tóm tắt các kết quả của luận văn: 

Luận văn “Phân tích diễn ngôn tiêu đề tin tức về xung đột Israel - Palestine trên báo điện tử tiếng Anh” được thực hiện nhằm phân tích các lớp nghĩa ẩn chìm đằng sau việc lựa chọn ngôn từ, từ đó chỉ ra sự khác biệt mang tính hệ thống trong chiến lược diễn ngôn giữa một hãng thông tấn có tầm ảnh hưởng toàn cầu như AP News và một tờ báo điện tử đối ngoại tiêu biểu của Việt Nam là VnExpress International. Thông qua việc đối chiếu các đặc điểm từ vựng và cấu trúc chuyển tác, nghiên cứu giải mã mối liên hệ giữa hình thức văn bản với thực hành diễn ngôn và thực hành xã hội, qua đó cho thấy tiêu đề báo chí không phải là sự phản ánh hiện thực khách quan thuần túy mà luôn mang dấu ấn của các định chế quyền lực cũng như hệ tư tưởng đặc trưng của quốc gia nơi tòa soạn đó đặt trụ sở và hoạt động.

Chương 1 đã xây dựng nền tảng lý luận và tổng quan bối cảnh thực tiễn làm cơ sở khoa học cho toàn bộ nghiên cứu của luận văn. Về mặt lý thuyết, chương hệ thống hóa các khái niệm cơ bản làm nền tảng phân tích như diễn ngôn, phân tích diễn ngôn và phân tích diễn ngôn phê phán (CDA) - đây cũng là phương pháp tiếp cận chủ đạo nhằm bóc tách mối quan hệ giữa ngôn ngữ, quyền lực và hệ tư tưởng trên tiêu đề của hai tờ báo. Khung phân tích trọng tâm là mô hình phân tích diễn ngôn ba chiều của Fairclough, cung cấp cái nhìn toàn diện về cấu trúc văn bản, thực hành diễn ngôn, bối cảnh xã hội tại nơi hai tờ báo hoạt động. Ngôn ngữ học chức năng hệ thống của Halliday đóng vai trò là công cụ ngôn ngữ học sắc bén để phân tích ngữ nghĩa và cấu trúc cú pháp ở cấp độ 1 – chiều văn bản. Các khái niệm liên quan đến báo chí làm rõ đặc thù của loại hình truyền thông đại chúng trực tuyến và vai trò định hướng của tiêu đề tin tức.

Chương 2 đã  làm rõ tính cấp thiết và lý do lựa chọn hai cơ quan báo chí AP News và VNEI làm khách thể nghiên cứu, phản ánh sự tương quan rõ nét với lập trường ngoại giao và bối cảnh chính trị - xã hội của Mỹ và Việt Nam đối với vấn đề Trung Đông. Tác giả cũng mô tả chi tiết các bước thu thập dữ liệu, thiết lập tiêu chí chọn mẫu, phạm vi thời gian cũng như quy trình phân loại, mã hóa dữ liệu theo quy chuẩn của nghiên cứu định tính kết hợp định lượng trong CDA. Những kết quả chuẩn bị về mặt phương pháp và dữ liệu ở chương 2 đảm bảo tính khách quan và khoa học để thu được kết quả nghiên cứu về tiêu đề tin tức liên quan đến xung đột được đăng trên AP News và VNEI ở chương 3. 

Khi trình bày kết quả và thảo luận dựa trên mô hình phân tích diễn ngôn ba chiều của Norman Fairclough ở chương 3, kết quả cho thấy: Ở chiều thứ nhất, nghiên cứu bóc tách các đặc điểm ngôn ngữ bề nổi trên tiêu đề như từ vựng, sắc thái biểu đạt, hệ thống chuyển tác... để cho thấy cách thức hai tòa soạn gán vai trò chủ thể thực hiện hành vi và đối tượng chịu tác động, từ đó kiến tạo các góc nhìn khác nhau về bản chất cuộc xung đột. Chiều thứ hai làm rõ quy trình sản xuất và xử lý nguồn tin ở cả hai tòa soạn. Với AP News, quy trình sản xuất tin tức thể hiện sự phụ thuộc vào các nguồn tin chính thống từ thể chế phương Tây. VNEI lại có tính liên văn bản trong chiến lược đưa tin, điều thể hiện rõ nét thông qua việc trích dẫn, lồng ghép các văn bản, thông cáo quốc tế một cách cân bằng, phản ánh kỹ thuật xử lý nguồn tin cẩn trọng và khách quan. Chiều thứ ba giải thích yếu tố dẫn đến sự khác biệt diễn ngôn giữa hai tòa soạn. Cụ thể, lập trường đưa tin của VNEI chịu sự ảnh hưởng từ đường lối đối ngoại độc lập, tự chủ, đa phương hóa, vì hòa bình và nhân đạo của Việt Nam. Ngược lại, lập trường của AP News chịu tác động từ bối cảnh địa chính trị Mỹ và quan hệ đồng minh chiến lược Mỹ - Israel. Việc đối chiếu bối cảnh chính trị - xã hội cho thấy diễn ngôn báo chí là sản phẩm bị quy định bởi thể chế và không gian địa chính trị của quốc gia nơi tờ báo đặt trụ sở.

11. Khả năng ứng dụng trong thực tiễn: 

Nghiên cứu cung cấp tư duy phản biện cho độc giả, giúp công chúng nhận diện các chiến lược cài cắm ý thức hệ để không bị dẫn dắt bởi các nguồn tin một chiều, bởi vì không có một bản tin nào là hoàn toàn khách quan hay đứng ngoài hệ tư tưởng. Đồng thời, kết quả nghiên cứu cũng là nguồn tham khảo giá trị cho các nhà báo, biên tập viên, biên dịch viên... trong việc lựa chọn từ vựng và cấu trúc câu để vừa đảm bảo tính khách quan quốc tế vừa giữ vững lập trường và lợi ích quốc gia.

12. Những hướng nghiên cứu tiếp theo:

Thay vì chỉ tập trung vào văn bản thuần túy, các nghiên cứu tiếp theo nên mở rộng sang phân tích trên các yếu tố đa phương thức như hình ảnh, video... hoặc so sánh diễn ngôn trên nền tảng mạng xã hội của các tờ báo này để thấy được sự biến đổi của ý thức hệ trong kỷ nguyên số. Cách báo chí lựa chọn góc chụp ảnh chiến trường, ảnh nạn nhân, ảnh quân sự... là đề tài thú vị cho thấy việc kiến tạo diễn ngôn và định khung nhận thức người đọc. Bên cạnh phân tích định tính, nhà nghiên cứu có thể xem xét thực hiện các cuộc khảo sát độc giả để tìm hiểu các chiến lược gán nhãn và định khung của báo chí tác động như thế nào đến thái độ và niềm tin của công chúng đối với cuộc xung đột Israel - Palestine.

Bên cạnh đó, các nghiên cứu tiếp theo có thể mở rộng dữ liệu bằng cách thu thập mẫu lớn với khoảng thời gian dài hơn. Nhà nghiên cứu có thể so sánh thêm diễn ngôn trên những tờ báo thuộc các quốc gia Trung Đông (Israel, Arab…) với quốc gia châu Á (Trung Quốc) và quốc gia đại diện phương Tây (Nga hoặc các nước thuộc khối EU) để thấy được sự va chạm của các hệ tư tưởng trên bản đồ chính trị thế giới.

11. Summary of the findings of the thesis: 

            The thesis entitled “Discourse Analysis of News Headlines on the Israel–Palestine Conflict in English-Language Online Newspapers” aims to examine the underlying meanings embedded in the linguistic choices made in news headlines. It seeks to identify the systematic differences in discourse strategies between AP News, a globally influential news agency, and VnExpress International, one of Vietnam's leading English-language online newspapers. By comparing lexical choices and transitivity structures, the study explores the relationship between textual features, discourse practice, and social practice. The findings demonstrate that news headlines are not simply objective representations of reality but are shaped by the power structures and ideological orientations associated with the countries in which the news organizations operate.

            Chapter 1 establishes the theoretical foundation and practical background for the study. It reviews the key concepts of discourse, discourse analysis, and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), which serves as the main analytical approach for examining the relationship between language, power, and ideology in the headlines of the two newspapers. The study adopts Fairclough's three-dimensional model of discourse analysis as its primary analytical framework because it provides a comprehensive perspective on textual features, discourse practice, and the broader social context in which the newspapers operate. Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics is used as the linguistic framework for examining semantic meanings and syntactic structures at the textual level. In addition, concepts related to journalism are reviewed to clarify the characteristics of online news media and the important role of headlines in guiding readers' understanding of news events.

            Chapter 2 explains the rationale for selecting AP News and VnExpress International as the subjects of the study. The two newspapers were chosen because they reflect different diplomatic positions and political and social contexts in the United States and Vietnam regarding the Middle East. This chapter also describes the research procedures in detail, including data collection, sampling criteria, the time frame of the study, and the process of classifying and coding the data. The research design combines qualitative and quantitative methods within the framework of Critical Discourse Analysis. The methodological procedures and data preparation presented in this chapter provide a reliable and objective basis for the analysis of conflict-related news headlines presented in Chapter 3.

            Chapter 3 presents the findings and discussion based on Fairclough's three-dimensional model of discourse analysis. At the first dimension, the study examines surface linguistic features of the headlines, including lexical choices, evaluative expressions, and transitivity patterns. These linguistic features reveal how the two newspapers assign agency and affected participants, thereby constructing different interpretations of the conflict. The second dimension focuses on discourse practice by examining how news is produced and how information sources are used. AP News mainly relies on official sources associated with Western institutions in its news production process. In contrast, VnExpress International demonstrates a stronger level of intertextuality through its balanced use of quotations and references to international documents and official statements. This practice reflects a careful and objective approach to handling news sources. The third dimension explains the broader social factors behind the differences in discourse between the two newspapers. The reporting approach of VnExpress International is influenced by Vietnam's foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralism, peace, and humanitarian values. By contrast, the discourse of AP News reflects the geopolitical context of the United States and its strategic alliance with Israel. The comparison of the two political and social contexts suggests that journalistic discourse is shaped by institutional structures and the geopolitical environment in which a news organization is based.

12. Practical applicability, if any: 

            The study provides readers with a more critical perspective, enabling them to recognize the ideological strategies embedded in news discourse and to avoid being influenced by one-sided sources of information. This is because no news report is entirely objective or completely free from ideology. In addition, the findings serve as a useful reference for journalists, editors, translators, and other media professionals in selecting appropriate vocabulary and sentence structures that not only maintain international standards of objectivity but also uphold national positions and interests.

13. Further research directions, if any: 

            Rather than focusing solely on textual analysis, future research should extend to multimodal discourse analysis by examining elements such as images, videos, and other visual materials. It may also compare the discourse presented on the social media platforms of these news organizations to explore how ideology is expressed and transformed in the digital age. The ways in which the media select photographs of battlefields, victims, military activities, and other visual content offer a valuable area of study, as such choices play an important role in constructing discourse and shaping readers' perceptions. In addition to qualitative analysis, future researchers may conduct audience surveys to investigate how media labeling and framing strategies influence public attitudes and perceptions of the Israel–Palestine conflict.

            Furthermore, future studies may expand the dataset by collecting a larger sample over a longer period of time. Comparative research could also include newspapers from Middle Eastern countries, such as Israel and Arab states, together with those from Asian countries, such as China, and representatives of the Western world, such as Russia or member states of the European Union. Such comparisons would provide a broader understanding of how different ideological perspectives interact within the global political landscape.
