The Faculty's main research interests focus on area studies and country studies, with a focus on Asian countries.
Every year, the Faculty's staff have published research works (150 journal articles in 5 years). Since 2010, the Faculty has carried out 04 State-level projects, 01 ministerial-level project, 03 VNU-Hanoi-level projects, 13 school-level projects; published many textbooks, monographs, reference materials, lectures for teaching; organized many domestic and international seminars and conferences. Every year, the Faculty organizes student scientific conferences (with 98% of students participating in scientific research each year, 100% in 2016-2017) and scientific seminars for young staff with sponsorship from the Toshiba Foundation (Japan).

In collaboration with Showa Women's University (Japan) to conduct research and investigation on cultural heritage conservation: The project is Duong Lam ancient town.
Korean Studies Project in Northern Vietnam: Sharing and Development under the AKS – Seed Program for Korean Studies (2022 - 2027) of the Department of Korean Studies.
Project to build a transnational and transgenerational Japanese research network (2024 - 2025); Program to enhance Vietnam's Japanese research capacity (2024 - 2025) of the Department of Japanese Studies.
