Information Management at VNU-USSH - a field of study poised to lead the way in the digital economy.

The goal of the Information Management major is to train high-quality human resources with systems thinking, solid practical knowledge and skills in the field of information management; capable of applying information technology to their profession; capable of processing information and analyzing data, analyzing and designing information systems, planning and implementing information management activities in organizations and businesses; able to adapt to the working environment, adhere to professional ethical standards, meet social requirements in the context of international integration and digital transformation; promote innovation and entrepreneurship; and capable of continuing their studies at a higher level.

In addition to general knowledge of the Natural Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities, students majoring in Information Management learn specialized knowledge groups, including: (1) Information Technology: fundamental tools for implementing information management; (2) Management Science: the thinking and strategies of managers in building and managing information systems; (3) Business Administration: keen economic thinking, understanding business operations; and (4) Information Science: thinking about the science of organizing and exploiting information.

The Faculty of Information and Library Science at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, boasts a long history of achievements and prestige in training in the field of Information and Library Science in Vietnam. In the context of integration and internationalization, the Faculty focuses on promoting cooperation, strengthening collaboration with domestic partners while expanding cooperation with individuals, organizations, and governments worldwide. Major corporations such as Meta and Google maintain close and effective partnerships with many leading businesses in Vietnam, including Bao Ninh, Nam Hoang, CMC, Hien Dai, Icando, VINADES, VTVlive, iCOMM Media & Teach, FPT, D&L, IDT, and professional associations such as the Vietnam Library Association, the Vietnam Association for Scientific and Technological Information, and various library federations. Therefore, students studying at the Faculty of Information and Library Science have the opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field of information both domestically and internationally, gain practical experience through internships at numerous businesses and organizations, hone their skills, and secure employment even before graduation.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a pioneer in Vietnam in the field of digital transformation in higher education, with the Faculty of Information and Library Science being one of its core units. From 2020 to the present, the Faculty has successfully collaborated with many partners to implement numerous projects:

Tổ chức Diễn đàn Hợp tác Kinh tế châu Á – APEC khẳng định: quá trình sản xuất, phân phối và sử dụng tri thức và thông tin trở thành động lực chính cho tăng trưởng, cho quá trình tạo ra của cải và việc làm trong tất cả các ngành kinh tế. Có thể thấy rằng thông tin đóng vai trò quan trọng trong nền kinh tế số. Có một thực tế là, trong quá trình chuyển đổi số, tại các tổ chức, doanh nghiệp hiện nay, những dữ liệu và thông tin về khách hàng, sản phẩm, đối tác, đối thủ cạnh tranh, tài chính, nhân lực... hiện chưa được tổ chức một cách tốt nhất; việc thu thập dữ liệu thường xuyên chưa được thực hiện. Do đó, việc đào tạo ra một đội ngũ những nhà quản trị thông tin chuyên nghiệp và chất lượng là rất cần thiết trong bối cảnh hiện nay.
Quản lý thông tin là một ngành khoa học liên ngành về tổ chức và khai thác thông tin và dữ liệu bao gồm: thu thập thông tin, xử lý thông tin, tổ chức thông tin, phân tích đánh giá và phân phối thông tin tới người dùng sao cho đạt hiệu quả cao nhất, nghĩa là cung cấp thông tin đúng nhu cầu, đúng đối tượng, đúng thời điểm và với giá cả phù hợp.
Ngành quản lý thông tin đào tạo nguồn nhân lực chất lượng cao trong lĩnh vực quản trị thông tin nhằm phục vụ phát triển kinh tế trong bối cảnh chuyển đổi số. Cụ thể là đào tạo ra những chuyên gia thông tin có tư duy logic và hệ thống, có khả năng hoạch định chiến lược trong việc quản trị thông tin cho các doanh nghiệp và các tổ chức hay các cơ quan chính phủ; qua đó biến thông tin thành một nguồn lực quan trọng cho sự phát triển cũng như tạo ra lợi thế cạnh tranh. Chuyên gia thông tin có năng lực tư vấn xây dựng hệ thống thông tin; biết cách thu thập, đánh giá, phân loại và xử lý, tổng hợp và phân tích, phân phối và quản lý thông tin; đồng thời tư vấn việc khai thác và sử dụng thông tin một cách hiệu quả. Tóm lại, chương trình hướng tới đào tạo những chuyên gia thông tin trong kỷ nguyên số. Có hình dung thế này trong bối cảnh bùng nổ thông tin thì Google có thể cung cấp cho bạn 1000 kết quả, nhưng chuyên gia thông tin chỉ đưa cho bạn duy nhất một câu trả lời đúng.

Điều gì là khó khăn nhất nhưng đồng thời cũng là đòi hỏi sống còn đối với con người trong cuộc sống hiện đại, đến mức thậm chí nếu không hoàn thành nó càng sớm càng tốt, ta có thể bị đào thải khỏi thế giới này? Đó chính là đưa ra những quyết định kịp thời và chính xác. Chúng ta không những phải ra quyết định trong cuộc sống cá nhân mà còn phải làm điều đó với tư cách một nhà quản lý, một chính trị gia, một thương nhân hay là một nhân viên.

Today, decision-making is challenging because its raw material—information—is exploding in sheer volume. Every individual, organization, agency, and business needs a special capability: information management skills, to be able to search, collect, organize, process, and utilize information effectively in management, recruitment, investment, product development, or public relations, among other areas.  
Pham Duc Tien, a former student of the K62 Information Management program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, shared: "I learned important knowledge and skills in information management, which has been very helpful in my work leading the Bidding Ecosystem – a platform centered around accurate, transparent, and up-to-date data. Currently, the Bidding Ecosystem is a pioneering platform, providing maximum support to private enterprises participating in public and private procurement and auction bidding markets." He affirmed: "Studying information management is about mastering the vast ocean of information, transforming it into tools to serve all other human activities. Therefore, someone who studies information management has the opportunity to adapt to many different professions and access work in various positions, from specialist to manager, from administrative to communication." In the future, every organization, agency, and business will need information management experts, a job that requires the ability to oversee and connect with, and support the entire operational system by providing the right resources for decision-making.
