The seminar "Studying the Moral Example of Ho Chi Minh," organized by the Youth Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on May 19, 2008, aimed to summarize a year of implementing the campaign "Studying and Following the Moral Example of Ho Chi Minh," and to determine the direction for the campaign in its second year, focusing on "Following the Moral Example of Ho Chi Minh." With the questions: "What should Youth Union members and young people do to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh?" and "What should the University's Youth Union do to ensure this movement is implemented widely, practically, and effectively for students?", we recorded many opinions on the sidelines of the seminar.

* Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang, M.Sc. - Department of Political Science: “Let us put into practice Uncle Ho’s teachings on youth.”

I believe that today's youth and students still need to strive even harder and make greater efforts to be worthy of Uncle Ho's trust and affection. Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example is also a way to improve ourselves. There are many ways to learn from and follow Uncle Ho's example, but perhaps we should first put into practice his teachings on youth, cultivating the moral qualities he demanded of the future generation of our country.

The school's Youth Union could launch a movement to implement the five things Uncle Ho advised young people:

Firstly, we must always uphold the revolutionary spirit of "loyalty to the country, devotion to the people, completing every task, overcoming every difficulty, and defeating every enemy"; not fearing hardship and sacrifice, enthusiastically competing in increasing production and bravely fighting, taking the lead in the revolutionary cause.

Secondly, we must have profound faith in the collective strength and wisdom of the people; strengthen solidarity and mutual assistance; enhance organizational awareness and discipline; and resolutely combat individualism and liberalism.

Thirdly, we must always cultivate revolutionary ethics, humility, and simplicity; combat arrogance and complacency; oppose waste and extravagance; and practice serious self-criticism and criticism to help each other progress continuously.

Fourth, we must strive to raise our political, cultural, scientific, technical, and military levels in order to contribute even more to the Fatherland and the people.

Fifth, always pay attention to guiding and educating teenagers and children, setting a good example in all aspects for younger generations to follow.

If we can put into practice these teachings of Uncle Ho, we are educating ourselves comprehensively, living better lives, and contributing more to the country and society.

In particular, young people and students need to strengthen their cultivation of the moral qualities that Ho Chi Minh demanded of Vietnamese people in the new era: Loyalty to the country, filial piety to the people; Diligence, Frugality, Integrity, Righteousness, Selflessness; Love for humanity; A pure international spirit, etc.

Many students are facing difficult circumstances, and we can learn about and help each other through concrete actions: donating to support them, introducing part-time jobs, etc. Many lives around us need empathy and support: orphaned children, people with disabilities, lonely elderly people… Our help to them is not only meaningful in terms of material support but, more importantly, it encourages them spiritually, giving them more strength and love for life. The Green Summer Campaign, Student Volunteer Program… we have done, are doing, and will continue to do even better. Furthermore, studying well is also a duty of young students, as taught by President Ho Chi Minh.

In learning from President Ho Chi Minh's moral example, we can also learn from the examples of our teachers and friends around us. Let this learning be integrated into the daily lives of young people and students, not just as a mere movement. Because learning from and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example helps us live better and more beautiful lives.

* Tran Bach Hieu - Department of Political Science: "Learning from Uncle Ho is not something far-fetched, but lies in concrete actions and good deeds in life."

[img class="caption" src="images/stories/2008/5/bach%20hieu.jpg" border="0" title="Tran Bach Hieu" hspace="5" vspace="5" align="right" ]

First and foremost, every youth union member and student must deeply understand the moral values embodied in Ho Chi Minh's example. This shouldn't be limited to mere theoretical reading; it must be demonstrated through practical actions. Currently, our Party is launching the campaign "Studying and Following the Moral Example of Ho Chi Minh" (2006-2011). This is the second year of the campaign. Following the learning aspect is the practical application of Uncle Ho's example. So, how should we, as youth union members, follow Uncle Ho's example?

Learning from Uncle Ho is not something far-fetched; it's manifested in concrete actions and good deeds in daily life: for example, students turning off lights before class, maintaining cleanliness, protecting public property, not being late for class, studying diligently, not cheating in exams, and saying no to social vices... In this way, each youth union member and student will easily understand what they need to do and how, and the movement will certainly become more profound and effective. At the same time, once each person has cultivated an ethical lifestyle, they should examine how much of it they have achieved, self-assess, and from there help those around them, especially those who haven't yet done well.

Furthermore, the issue of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example also requires the exemplary conduct and guidance of all teachers on ethical issues relevant to each specific profession, so that students, upon graduation, can become individuals who are both "red" (ideologically sound) and "expert" (professionally competent), as desired by President Ho Chi Minh. This is truly a great and sustainable result, making a practical contribution to the current national development.

* Pham Thi Mai Nhan - K50 Management Science: “Learning from Uncle Ho through simple things”

[img class="caption" src="images/stories/2008/5/mai%20nhan.jpg" border="0" title="Pham Thi Mai Nhan" hspace="5" vspace="5" align="left" ]

Youth union members can learn from and follow President Ho Chi Minh's example in many specific, everyday aspects of life. To guide student union members, the university's Youth Union should launch movements and activities that are relevant and practically meaningful to students. In my opinion, there should be daily movement activities and activities that serve as highlights.

Everyday activities include: reminding students to maintain environmental hygiene and save resources, the student union could create reminder signs such as: "If you are a polite person, please do not litter" or "Please turn off the lights when leaving the room." These humorous reminder signs can be placed in easily visible locations, gradually forming good habits among students. Or, building a movement for scientific learning and work, for example, combating daytime sleepiness in dormitories... This is how students can learn from President Ho Chi Minh's example of saving time, studying diligently, and participating in activities beneficial to themselves and society.

Key initiatives include organizing book exhibitions, galas, and exchanging school supplies. Humanities and social sciences fields are interdisciplinary, so exchanging books is essential. We can organize book exhibitions and introductions, mobilizing resources from students themselves, and then exchanging them. What's old for one is new for another. This encourages a love of reading and the exchange of scientific and life information among students. Or we could organize a galas where each person brings a nice item or school supply to exchange or give as a gift – a very student-friendly approach that fosters interaction and creates small joys for oneself and those around them.

Personally, I will learn from Uncle Ho in simple things like exercising and playing sports to maintain my health and ensure my studies; and cultivating good, close, simple, and sincere relationships with those around me, just as Uncle Ho himself did.

* Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong - K51 Literature Education: “Youth union members should learn from Uncle Ho's example of sacrifice”

[img class="caption" src="images/stories/2008/5/mai%20phuong.jpg" border="0" title="Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong" hspace="5" vspace="5" align="right" ]

What I admire most about Uncle Ho is his self-sacrificing nature, sacrificing personal needs for the common good of everyone, of the collective, and of the nation. Currently, some young people, despite being given opportunities for education by their families and society, cannot overcome common temptations, living a life of extravagance, pleasure-seeking, pragmatism, selfishness, and falling into many social vices. They have betrayed the sacrifices of their parents, relatives, teachers, and friends. Some students do not dare to fight against bad habits and negative aspects in schools and society.

In my opinion, young people should learn from President Ho Chi Minh's example of sacrifice by participating in activities that benefit society: helping the elderly and lonely, donating blood, volunteering, etc. Participating in such activities will help us live more beautifully and meaningfully for ourselves and for the community. In the school environment, young people should actively contribute ideas to build the overall movement, know how to sacrifice and dedicate themselves for the collective, and know how to sincerely help those around them...

* Vo Bien Thuy - K49 Journalism and Communication: “Students who follow President Ho Chi Minh's example need to demonstrate this concretely in two aspects: studying and cultivating moral character.”

[img class="caption" src="images/stories/2008/5/bien%20thuy.jpg" border="0" title="Vo Bien Thuy" hspace="5" vspace="5" align="right" ]

In my opinion, student union members should learn from and follow President Ho Chi Minh's example in their work and activities related to students, specifically in two aspects: academics and moral cultivation. First, students need to study well; this is our top priority. Studying well provides knowledge, professional skills, self-affirmation, and the ability to contribute to the country and society. Second, students should cultivate morality, live beautifully and healthily, and possess social and cultural knowledge. These two things complement each other to form a complete and virtuous person.

From the university's perspective, besides launching the movement to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, there must be concrete implementation activities. In particular, the dissemination and communication activities to a large number of students in all classes should be further strengthened. For example, there should be a team of communicators who are well-versed in Ho Chi Minh's moral ideology as well as the orientations and content of this movement, to go to each class to present and talk to students so they can learn and follow his example...

Recently, our school has had some good activities, such as organizing the competition on studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh. In my opinion, there should be more competitions like this, along with other extracurricular activities, so that the movement can be implemented more widely among students. Through these, students will also be able to access the thoughts of Uncle Ho and orient their own activities.

* Pham Huy Cuong - President of the Student Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities: “Learning and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh through practical actions in our lives and studies”

In my opinion, union members should learn from and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh first and foremost through their practical actions in life and study. They should study hard to become excellent students, live healthy lives, and actively contribute to building a civilized socio-cultural environment.

Right from the moment the Politburo launched the campaign, under the direction of the University Party Committee, the University Youth Union established a Steering Committee for the movement to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh among the university's youth. On May 19th, the University Youth Union held a review meeting summarizing one year of implementing the campaign. Overall, with various forms and integrated activities, the campaign's dissemination has reached every student member. In the coming academic year, the University Youth Union plans to launch specific action movements to study the moral example of Ho Chi Minh, with the aim of building an image of students who excel in their professional and scientific fields, and a disciplined and civilized academic environment.

* Nguyen Do Thuy Anh, K49 International Studies: “Following the valuable lessons that President Ho Chi Minh passed down to the younger generation”

[img class="caption" src="images/stories/2008/5/thuy%20anh.jpg" border="0" title="Nguyen Do Thuy Anh" hspace="5" vspace="5" align="right" ]

Besides the primary goal of excelling in their studies, young people in the Youth Union must strive to cultivate and improve themselves, following the valuable lessons that President Ho Chi Minh passed down to the younger generation. They need to cultivate the integrity of a Youth Union member, stay away from social vices, and understand that their duty is to study so that they can contribute and serve the interests of the country in the future.

The university's Youth Union should continue to organize seminars on this topic for its members at various branches, encouraging students to participate in learning activities. At the same time, the Youth Union should hold activities to reward and commend outstanding Youth Union members who perform their duties well.
