Promoting the strengths of a university of basic sciences, focusing resources on building the University of Social Sciences and Humanities into a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research university with a team of excellent, leading experts; developing a number of new training majors and specialties, pioneering and playing a core role in training and researching basic sciences of the country to reach regional and international standards; ranking in the top 100 universities in Asia and the top 500 universities in the world.
II. Strategic objectives
1. General goals
Develop the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the direction of a research university, continue to affirm its leading position in research and training in social sciences and humanities in Vietnam, strive to bring the university into the top 150 universities in Asia by 2025, into the top 100 universities in the continent by 2035 and on par with advanced universities (in the top 500) in the world.
2. Specific goals
Training high-quality, highly qualified human resources to serve the cause of industrialization, modernization and international integration.
- Create favorable conditions to stimulate creative potential, thinking and entrepreneurial spirit, create an open, friendly and cohesive academic environment... so that intellectuals, learners and society can participate in the development of the School and contribute to building a Learning Society.[1].
- Every school year, the faculties, departments, centers, research institutes, etc. invite at least one expert from prestigious foreign universities to teach and exchange knowledge. The number of international experts will increase in the following years.
- Implement the development of training majors and specialties approved by Hanoi National University, continue to complete existing training programs in the direction of articulation, continue to expand high-quality training programs in the direction of socialization, and at the same time propose to build a number of new advanced training programs in the direction of interdisciplinary; expand international training cooperation with prestigious universities in the region and the world.
- Focus on training high-quality human resources at all three university levels: Bachelor, Master, PhD. Increase the rate of postgraduate training, especially doctoral training. By 2025, ensure the rate of postgraduate training is 20% compared to the number of full-time students.
The training scale will reach 7,800 full-time university students and 300 gifted high school students by 2025. In full-time university training, 2% of students are foreigners.
By 2025, about 10% of graduates in fields such as Oriental Studies, International Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Tourism, etc. with professional and foreign language skills will successfully participate in the labor market of the ASEAN Economic Community.
- The school considers maintaining and continuously improving the quality of training, training a team of highly qualified scientific staff with a spirit of autonomy and creativity in teaching and scientific research as a key task and at the same time a "strategic solution".[2]in long-term development orientation.
High-quality scientific research serving the cause of national construction, development and protection
- Identify a number of priority research directions that are the strengths of the School and are closely linked to Vietnam's development requirements regarding the historical traditions, culture, society, country and people of Vietnam; Vietnam's specific development model and path; Vietnam's role and position in regional and international relations; national sovereignty and security, focusing on research on borders, islands, territorial processes, etc.
- Build and develop at least 02 key laboratories/research centers at VNU level; Institute of Policy and Management, Social Appraisal Laboratory to serve research on ethics, lifestyle and social issues.
- Plan and build a team of leading staff, ensuring that each key research direction has 01 strong research group and/or potential research group at VNU level.
- Further promote international publications to ensure 10% of total international publications of VNU.
Develop resources, implement quality culture
- Implement the motto: "People are the center of development strategy and at the same time the subject of development"[3]The school has strong mechanisms and solutions in training staff, especially training a team of good experts and leading scientists for the school's scientific fields.
- Increase the ratio of lecturers to ensure resources to perform tasks, meet the requirements of expanding training scale and organizational structure of some units.
- Prioritize investment to improve the quality of staff, meet the requirements of training and scientific research tasks in the context of deep integration and orientation towards developing research universities, autonomy, creativity, connection and entrepreneurship.
- The staff and lecturers of the School are people with courage, rich capacity and creative thinking in teaching and research; mastering advanced methods, viewpoints and approaches in teaching and research. The lecturers of the School are not only professionally competent but also fluent in foreign languages to participate in teaching programs, academic exchanges, research coordination and international scientific dialogue.
- Create a mechanism to attract a team of highly qualified and skilled experts to work at the School; take advantage of resources, training programs, and cooperation projects to attract international experts and scientists to lecture, give scientific presentations, attend seminars, and carry out research activities.
- Continue to develop financial resources, effectively use State-funded funds, and at the same time have solutions to diversify financial resources, attract funding from training programs, research cooperation and development projects with partners and scientific agencies at home and abroad.
- Strengthening the culture of quality from progress to efficiency in all areas of the School's activities, professionalizing management, training and research activities; building a spirit of community, sharing responsibilities in solving common tasks for the development of the School. Prioritizing quality in accordance with strategy and goals; moving towards school quality accreditation according to the standards of the Southeast Asian University Network (AUN-QA), at the same time, 100% of undergraduate training programs and 30% of master's training programs are accredited and assessed for quality according to domestic and international standards.
