(National Assembly Representative) Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang: The more proactive, the faster on the research path

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi has just held a 2025 Master's and Doctoral degree awarding ceremony for nearly 200 graduate students and researchers. Among them, Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang (Tourism) was honored as one of four doctors with outstanding achievements in study and research.

A precious and meaningful journey
“For me, the PhD degree from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is not only the result of a serious learning and training process, but also an important milestone in my academic journey. This is a testament to my professional maturity and research capacity, helping me to be more confident when entering scientific activities at home and abroad.”Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang said.
The new doctor also emphasized that this degree also opens up many new opportunities for him, from participating more deeply in research activities, teaching at postgraduate level, to taking on roles in scientific councils. The academic values ​​accumulated from the learning process at the school will be valuable assets for him to continue contributing to the development of the industry.

Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang is a lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism - Yersin University, Dalat.
The moment when his name was called at the 2025 Master's and Doctoral degree awarding ceremony at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was unforgettable and full of emotions for him. This was not only a personal joy, but also a meaningful recognition of the learning and research journey that he was fortunate to pursue at the school.
“I consider it a great source of encouragement, adding confidence and motivation to continue to persevere on the path of scientific research in the future. Today's achievements are the result of the dedicated guidance from the instructor, the support of the lecturers, and the silent but persistent companionship of family and colleagues. I always appreciate and am grateful for that love and help.”, he said.
Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang confided that experiencing studying and researching at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was a valuable and meaningful journey. In a serious and professional academic environment, he and his fellow students and researchers not only had access to a wide range of knowledge, but were also encouraged to practice critical thinking, develop and perfect their own research abilities.
The years of attachment to the school have helped him form a sense of responsibility, perseverance in academics and especially appreciate humanistic values ​​- which are always preserved and spread by the school.
What left the deepest impression on him was the dedication and companionship of the teachers. Not only did they impart knowledge systematically, but they were also always willing to share their research experiences, encourage the spirit of learning, and create conditions for us to develop independent thinking. That companionship helped him grow a lot in his journey as a doctoral student.
“I am grateful that during the process of doing my thesis, I received responsible and dedicated support from my supervisor, teachers in the department, as well as functional units of the school.
In particular, I appreciate the companionship of Associate Professor Dr. Pham Hong Long, my direct supervisor, who has always been close to me and inspired me throughout my research journey. He not only helped me orient the problem in a multi-dimensional way, but also created conditions for me to develop independent academic thinking, boldly propose ideas and be autonomous in implementing work., he expressed.
In addition, according to Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang, the teachers in the department also gave him very sincere and frank comments and exchanges, helping him broaden his perspective and perfect his research orientation in a more profound way. The functional departments also always create favorable conditions for accessing learning materials, handling administrative procedures and providing necessary information. The smooth coordination and responsibility from the school are important factors that help him feel secure and focus on the learning and research process.

Be serious and strict with yourself!
In his message to the PhD and Master students studying at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang said that the first thing is to always persevere and maintain passion for the research path you have chosen. There will be very difficult periods, but those times will help you train your mettle, perseverance and spirit to overcome challenges.
“Be proactive in making the most of valuable resources from teachers, friends and the academic environment at school. Do not hesitate to ask questions, share ideas, or concerns in research, because from there, many good research directions and good methods will be opened up.
At the same time, be serious and strict with yourself, by making a clear plan, setting weekly and monthly goals to maintain progress and motivation for studying. The more proactive you are, the easier it is for you to move quickly on the research path."he shared.
According to Dr. Duong Ngoc Lang, his PhD from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is the starting point for more in-depth research projects - where he hopes to focus on contemporary social and humanistic issues.
He hopes to continue to develop, not only as a lecturer or manager, but also as a researcher who can make practical and meaningful contributions to the community.
