PART I: GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE TRAINING PROGRAM

2. Objectives of the training program

2.1. General Objectives

The program aims to train students with a fundamental understanding of social sciences and humanities; possessing good character, ethics, and responsibility towards themselves and society; and having good health and a sense of responsibility for building and protecting the nation. The training program equips students with a system of knowledge in cultural studies and necessary skills oriented towards research, enabling them to apply their learned knowledge to real-life situations. Based on this, students will be able to independently handle assigned tasks related to culture and cultural heritage; proactively seek and develop new knowledge; pursue further studies at a higher level; and confidently integrate into the international community.

2.2. Specific Objectives

- In addition to general and specialized knowledge in social sciences and humanities, students are equipped with knowledge of culture and cultural studies in four specialized areas: Cultural Industry, Heritage Economics, Cultural Studies, and Cultural Management. General knowledge of cultural studies is divided into areas such as: theoretical issues and research methods of culture; components of culture; types and expressions of culture; issues related to cultural identity; and contemporary cultural issues. Furthermore, specialized fields of cultural studies such as political culture, behavioral culture, symbolic culture, and gender culture are also included in the overall training program. The program also provides multi-faceted approaches to cultural studies. Besides specialized knowledge, students must also meet requirements in foreign languages ​​and Chinese characters, as these are indispensable tools for their work after graduation.

- Students are trained in research skills (research, synthesis, analysis, comparison of documents; application of research results from specialized and interdisciplinary fields; case studies, group discussions, interviews, fieldwork...), presentation skills, debate skills, report writing, and research project simulation. Students are provided with scientific and professional working methods, systemic thinking, analytical thinking, and the ability to work independently and effectively in teams. Based on this, students are able to be proactive in their work, continue their research, pursue higher education, accumulate experience, and cultivate important personal and professional qualities and skills to become experts in their relevant fields and integrate into the international environment.

- Students are trained in character, patriotism, and respect for the traditional cultural identity of their nation; they have the understanding to accept and respect cultural differences between regions and countries, without discrimination or prejudice based on gender; they are confident and proactive in international communication, pioneering, independent, and have a sense of community service; they have a high degree of self-reliance in their studies; and they have personal, collective, and community responsibility in their studies, research, and community service.

PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

1. Regarding knowledge

PLO 01: Applying basic knowledge of political theory, philosophy, economics, culture, society, and law to understand and address academic and real-life issues in the contemporary context;

PLO 02: Applying fundamental knowledge of academic standards, professional ethics, creative thinking, design thinking, entrepreneurship, information technology, and AI tools to analyze and solve professional and life problems in the context of the digital age;

PLO 03: Applying knowledge and research methods from the social sciences and humanities to clarify life's issues from an interdisciplinary perspective;

PLO 04: Practical analysis of fundamental knowledge of cultural studies to design research and application projects in specialized fields such as cultural industry, heritage economics, cultural research, and cultural management;

PLO 05: Creating and proposing ideas, advising on cultural and historical products.

2. Regarding skills

PLO 06: Proficient in academic English in the social sciences and humanities in academic and professional environments at level B1, equivalent to level 3 (according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework used in Vietnam) as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training and Hanoi National University;

PLO 07: Proficient in the skills of developing essays or small-scale scientific research in the field of cultural studies in particular and social sciences and humanities in general, from identifying research questions, selecting appropriate methods, collecting and processing materials to presenting and defending research results in a coherent and persuasive manner;

PLO 08: Evaluating the subjects of cultural studies, thereby identifying appropriate theories and processes to apply in solving cultural problems in practice;

PLO 09: Develop a plan for investigating and researching culture to serve the management, preservation, and promotion of Vietnam's cultural resources in the directions of cultural industry and heritage economy;

PLO 10: Adapting to teamwork, from participation and building to leadership and team development; adapting to work environment conditions and work pressure.

3. Level of autonomy and responsibility

PLO 11: Forming habits of self-study, self-research, and lifelong learning; a sense of responsibility, professional ethics, and civic consciousness; respect for scientific standards, humanistic values, and diversity in thought and culture;

PLO 12: Strengthening patriotism and national cultural pride; fighting for social justice, democracy, and civilization; being courageous and confident in debates;

PLO 13: Autonomy and responsibility in planning, coordinating, managing resources, evaluating, and improving the effectiveness of professional activities.

4. Job positions that students can take on after graduation.

4.1. Types of job positions

- Research and teaching on culture, heritage, and cultural history at research institutes and centers, universities, academies, colleges, and the general education system…;

- Managing, analyzing data, and proposing policies on culture and heritage within the system of state agencies managing culture;

- Managing museums, historical sites, cultural heritage...; Participating in the preservation, restoration, and promotion of the value of historical and cultural heritage; Developing cultural tourism activities; Tourist guide;

- Providing creative consulting and proposing ideas for exploiting historical and cultural values, developing cultural industries, heritage economy, etc., in domestic and foreign companies and corporations;

- Editor, writer, journalist, translator…;

- The work involves issues related to the social sciences and humanities.

4.2. Types of agencies, organizations, and businesses with suitable job opportunities and potential

- Research institutes, such as member institutes of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; research agencies of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; ...;

- Universities, academies, colleges, and high schools that teach cultural subjects;

- State agencies and organizations (central agencies of the political system, press and media agencies, People's Committees at all levels, museums, historical and cultural research centers, units managing historical relics and cultural heritage, publishing houses, bookstores, specialized cultural magazines, etc.) and non-governmental organizations that utilize knowledge of cultural studies and history;

- Domestic and foreign companies and corporations operating in the production and business of goods, products, and services related to the cultural knowledge, history, heritage, land, and people of Vietnam.

5. Opportunities for further learning and professional development after graduation.

After graduation, graduates in Cultural Studies can pursue further studies and engage in self-study to improve and enhance their professional skills.

Continue your studies for a Master's degree: in Cultural Studies, Cultural Management, and other Master's degree programs at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities;

Continue your doctoral studies in Cultural Management and other doctoral programs at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities;

In addition to the main major in Cultural Studies, during their studies, if they meet the requirements, students can pursue a second Bachelor's degree or a postgraduate degree in one of the following fields of study at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities: History, Tourism Studies, Oriental Studies, the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, Literature, Management Science, Archival Studies and Office Administration… or other fields of study at the University of Law, the University of Education, and the Vietnam-Japan University within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

At the same time, Master's and Doctoral programs are not limited to the specializations (at the Master's level) and specializations (at the Doctoral level) within the Department of History; graduates with a Bachelor's degree in History can pursue Master's and Doctoral studies in various other disciplines within the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
