1. Formation and development process
The predecessor of the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was the Trade Union of Hanoi University of Science. Along with the establishment of the Party Committee of Hanoi University of Science, the Trade Union of Hanoi University of Science was established in July 1958. The first provisional Executive Committee of the Trade Union was appointed by the Party Committee, the Secretary General of the Trade Union was comrade Pho Duc To (officer of the Faculty of Mathematics). This was the first Chairman of the Trade Union of Hanoi University of Science.
On December 10, 1993, the Prime Minister signed Decree No. 97/CP establishing Hanoi National University. In this Decree, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Natural Sciences were separated on the basis of Hanoi National University.
On March 26, 1996, the Hanoi City Labor Federation issued Decision No. 231/QD-TC to establish the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Trade Union of the University of Natural Sciences. In the 1995-1996 school year, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities officially became an independent trade union in a new organizational system - the Trade Union of Hanoi National University with the first trade union president being comrade Do Quang Hung.
The establishment of the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is the inheritance and promotion of the tradition of the Trade Union of Hanoi National University; It is the continuation of generations of leaders with professional qualifications, solid management skills, full of enthusiasm, frankness, daring to think, daring to do, always listening, sharing and always accompanying the staff of the University.
Since its inception, the School's Trade Union has contributed effectively to maintaining stability and development; building a humane educational environment, creating an atmosphere of solidarity among union members and between union organizations throughout the School.
Faced with the requirements of innovation and integration, the School's Trade Union has constantly innovated and created content and methods of operation; activities have become increasingly in-depth, suitable to reality and objects, attractive and convincing to union members; through activities, it has gathered and mobilized cadres and civil servants to actively contribute their efforts and intelligence to the cause of building and developing the School to become stronger and stronger, excellently completing professional tasks as well as political tasks in the new context.
The Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is one of the active units in coordinating and implementing many meaningful activities in the Trade Union cluster of 5 large universities in the Hanoi area: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi National Economics University, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, University of Natural Sciences, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
2. Functions and tasks:
- Propaganda and mobilization of union members and workers to implement the Party's guidelines and policies; the State's policies and laws, citizens' obligations; and the Union's policies and resolutions.
- Represent, care for and protect the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers according to the provisions of State law.
- Monitor or participate in monitoring the implementation of policies, laws, regulations, collective labor agreements and issues related to the legitimate and legal rights and interests of union members and employees as prescribed by law.
- Coordinate with the School Board of Directors to build and implement grassroots democracy regulations; care for material and spiritual life, improve professional qualifications and skills, improve working conditions and health care for civil servants and employees; organize emulation movements, cultural and social activities.
- Organize the implementation of resolutions of trade unions at all levels, comply with the Charter of the Vietnam Trade Union; organize training and fostering of union members and officials; manage and use union finances and assets in accordance with regulations; carry out the work of developing and managing union members; build strong grassroots trade unions; participate in building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations at the workplace; build sustainable development of agencies, units and enterprises; participate in building a clean and strong Party and people's government.

4. Achievements
After a quarter of a century of operation, going through 10 Congress terms as a member unit of the Hanoi National University Trade Union, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Trade Union has affirmed its position in the Hanoi National University Trade Union, the Vietnam Education Trade Union and the Hanoi City Labor Federation.
Along with the development of the University, the Trade Union of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has continuously grown with over 500 union members operating in 19 departmental unions. The University's Trade Union has continuously achieved the title of excellent strong grassroots trade union and has been recognized with noble awards from the State and Trade Unions at all levels:
