On October 10, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed Decree No. 45 establishing the Faculty of Literature - one of the five faculties of the Vietnam National University and also the predecessor of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. On June 5, 1956, the Vietnamese Government issued Decision No. 2183 establishing Hanoi University on the basis of its predecessor institutions (University of Science, Faculty of Literature, University of Basic Sciences, and the Preparatory University of Inter-region IV), becoming the first university of basic sciences (natural sciences - social sciences and humanities) in North Vietnam immediately after peace was restored. In September 1995, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was officially established, becoming an independent unit within the Vietnam National University, Hanoi. Over 80 years of development, despite facing numerous difficulties, through unity and dedication, the University has grown stronger, affirming its position and making significant contributions to Vietnamese science and education; aiming to become an advanced research university in the region and the world.
