Overview of the China-Vietnam Forum for Dialogue on Higher Education in Journalism and Communication.

This was one of the opinions expressed at the China-Vietnam Higher Education Dialogue Forum on Journalism and Communication, organized by the Communication University of China on the afternoon of September 25th in Beijing, China.

Representatives from nearly 30 universities and colleges from both countries, such as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; the Academy of Journalism and Communication; the Diplomatic Academy, Hue University... of Vietnam and Tsinghua University, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Ningxia University, Wuhan University... of China, attended.

The forum included two roundtable dialogue sessions with the themes "People-to-people exchanges and prospects for cooperation in journalism and media education" and "Exchange of experiences on building the journalism and media industry and training human resources".

Ms. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, emphasized: “Currently, journalism and media training faces many opportunities and challenges. The development of the information society is an inevitable trend of modern society with the formation of a new class of public – the digital generation. Therefore, journalism training institutions must strive to transform their thinking, methods, and training approaches to supplement the workforce with young journalists who are formally and systematically trained, possessing multi-skills, and capable of meeting the requirements of the multi-platform, multi-media journalism and media technology industry.”
 

During the dialogue sessions, delegates discussed various topics such as promoting people-to-people exchanges, implementing cooperation in journalism and media education, academic exchanges, and sharing experiences on building the journalism and media industry and training human resources between Vietnam and China.

Both sides emphasized the need to implement mechanisms for exchange and dialogue in diverse forms, such as organizing seminars and forums, to promote long-term and sustainable cooperation; to promote the implementation of specific cooperation programs; to share the results of joint scientific research in journals and publications; and to build academic data sources for joint research programs.

In addition, both sides proposed promoting professional exchanges in teaching and learning for lecturers and students; exchanging scholars and lecturers to jointly promote human resource training; diversifying forms of joint training, opening new specialized fields that are directional and leading...

In an interview with a Vietnamese correspondent based in China, Mr. Hoang Dien Lam, Secretary-General of the International Media Research Institute, Communication University of China, stated: “This is arguably the first time universities and colleges from both countries have organized a large-scale exchange program on higher education in journalism and media. This forum is an opportunity for both sides to exchange ideas and gain a better understanding of each other, thereby strengthening cooperation in areas such as human resource training, scientific research, and promoting exchanges between faculty and students of both countries.”
