On the afternoon of July 1st, 2010, the Faculty of Oriental Studies - University of Social Sciences and Humanities held the closing ceremony and awarded prizes for the 5th Korean Literature Appreciation Writing Contest. The competition was jointly organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the Korean Literature Translation Institute (Ministry of Culture, Information and Communication of Korea) in June 2010. This was also the first time the competition was held nationwide. The Korean literary work chosen as the theme for this year's essay contest was "Before the Manse Movement" by Yom Sang Seop, translated by Le Dang Hoan. 108 essays were submitted by students from 11 universities nationwide that offer Korean language and Korean studies programs. The Organizing Committee worked meticulously through multiple rounds of judging to select the best essays, demonstrating the best understanding and appreciation of the chosen work. The results of the competition were kept secret until the last minute. At the awards ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded 10 consolation prizes, 3 third prizes, 2 second prizes, and 1 first prize. In particular, Xuan Quynh, a student from the K53 Korean Studies program at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, won the special prize in the competition. Even more remarkably, Xuan Quynh also won the special prize in the 4th Korean Literature Appreciation Writing Contest held in 2009 and represented Vietnam in the international competition in Korea. The contest is an annual collaborative activity between the Korean Literature Translation Institute and the Department of Oriental Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, aiming to encourage students to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Korean literary works, thereby enriching their knowledge of Korean language and culture, and supporting their studies and research.
