Vietnamese Studies is one of the oldest majors of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU. With 55 years of tradition and development, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language has truly become the focal point for organizing training and research activities on Vietnamese Studies in an interdisciplinary, regional and Vietnamese Language and Culture training orientation for foreigners, closely linked with units inside and outside the school to promote the multidisciplinary and multi-field strengths of the school.

With nearly 30 full-time lecturers who are Professors, Associate Professors, and PhDs, the Faculty also has the teaching cooperation of many lecturers who are scientists and leading experts in VNH from universities and research institutes in the country. In particular, the Faculty regularly invites leading experts in VNH from the country and internationally to give talks, creating opportunities for students to approach prominent issues of VNH in the country and in the world in the context of current global development and integration.
In addition, during their studies at the Faculty, students also have the opportunity to learn and exchange with international students from dozens of countries who are studying Vietnamese, as well as graduate students who come to conduct field research in Vietnam. More than 10,000 foreigners have studied Vietnamese language and Vietnamese culture at the Faculty as well as with the Faculty's teachers at many universities and Vietnamese study centers around the world.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, with its core team of experts from the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, has coordinated with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and the Ministry of Education and Training to develop a framework for training, teaching and granting Vietnamese language teaching certificates to hundreds of overseas Vietnamese teachers participating in courses organized in person and online. In addition, VNU is the only public university that has been carrying out the national mission of launching a Vietnamese language teaching channel for overseas Vietnamese since 2022 and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is honored to be the core unit to carry out this task. Up to now, the School has organized more than 150 Vietnamese language classes for overseas Vietnamese from elementary to advanced levels, serving nearly thousands of overseas Vietnamese from 23 countries and territories around the world: Laos, Singapore, England, Germany, France, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Greece, Hungary, Switzerland, Taiwan, Canada, America, Australia, Japan, Korea, China, Philippines...

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-USSH) participated in the launching ceremony of "Vietnamese Language Honor Day" and the contest "Searching for Vietnamese Language Ambassadors Abroad in 2025" organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (SOC) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of March 29, 2025 in Hanoi.
The program “Hello Vietnam” is implemented by the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language in cooperation with VTV4 – the foreign television channel of Vietnam Television – in its fourth year with a positive effect of spreading Vietnamese language in the foreign community and overseas Vietnamese.
Intensive, interdisciplinary and integrated training program
The field of Vietnamese Studies aims to train experts with a broad knowledge base about Vietnam and its people, capable of working in interdisciplinary environments and proficiently using multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research skills to identify the characteristics of specific socio-cultural spaces to serve Vietnam's economic, social, and cultural development strategies.
Over the years, Vietnamese studies training has not only met the domestic demand for high-quality human resources but has also contributed to training a significant number of Vietnamese studies experts for many countries and international organizations worldwide. In the context of global development and integration, research and training on Vietnam has become an urgent need, on the one hand for Vietnam's development and integration, and on the other hand for the investment and cooperation process between countries and international organizations and Vietnam.
Furthermore, students majoring in Vietnamese Studies will have the opportunity to learn about and expand their relationships with international friends from different cultures. The department has a unique environment with a large number of foreign students, creating opportunities for interaction, learning, improving foreign language skills and diverse cultural knowledge for students in the department, as well as organizing meetings and networking events with employers and influential figures to create opportunities for connection, exchange, and career guidance.
Experiential activities, including visits to famous scenic spots, historical and cultural sites, and the annual "International Cultural Festival" held every New Year, provide Vietnamese students and international students studying at the Faculty with opportunities to interact and learn about the culture, cuisine, and art of different countries.



"International Cultural Festival" - Unity Carnival 2025 organized by the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language attracted the participation of many Vietnamese and international students studying at the School.
Therefore, coming to the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language of VNU-USSH, students will study in an in-depth, systematic, but also modern, dynamic and internationally integrated environment. Students of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Language are always pioneers in the movements of the Youth Union - Association, with many rich clubs such as the Youth Union - Student Association of the School as well as clubs with the Faculty's own colors: Cultural Ambassador Club - CMC with support activities, CMC Cooking Competition, VSL Writing Contest, Vietnamese Sound,....

More than 70 international students participated in a field trip to Mai Chau, Hoa Binh province.

Students of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language are always at the forefront of youth union and student association activities.

The Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, as well as the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, always creates opportunities and encourages students to improve and develop themselves with various types of scholarships. Over the years, the university has continuously strengthened cooperation with scholarship funds, agencies, organizations, and businesses both domestically and internationally to provide numerous scholarships for students. The goal is not only to provide the best learning conditions but also to motivate students to strive throughout their time at the university, such as: AEON Scholarship, Annex Scholarship, Asia Development Foundation-ADF Scholarship, Dao Minh Quang Award, Yamada Award, etc. In addition, every year the Faculty connects with partners, businesses, and benefactors to award top-performing scholarships to new students during the opening ceremony of the academic year.
With its extensive network of partners, the Faculty annually plans and organizes field trips and internships at suitable locations for students, including a wide variety of options such as research institutions, diplomatic agencies, media and press organizations; tourism or hotel companies; universities, Vietnamese language teaching centers, cultural sites and historical relics in many regions across the country.
Career counseling and support activities to help students find jobs suitable to their majors and interests are also of interest to the Faculty Board and are regularly organized in many diverse forms.
In the past, when mentioning the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, many people often thought that students studying basic sciences would only be able to work in state agencies, historical museums, research institutes... This is true but no longer enough for the current generation of students and the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies.
Coming to the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, students will not only learn simple in-depth knowledge about the country, culture, people, and society of Vietnam, but also be trained in the necessary skills to create conditions for them to have multi-dimensional views on current issues and conditions in Vietnam. These are the necessary skills not only for future jobs but also necessary life skills in modern society.
With a comprehensive and holistic education, graduates will have numerous career opportunities, not only working in public organizations and state management agencies but also for international organizations that cooperate and exchange with Vietnam. Furthermore, in the context of globalization and integration, they are key personnel with opportunities to be recruited into departments specializing in Vietnam relations within foreign economic, diplomatic, educational, and media organizations.
