2. Objectives of the training program

2.1 General Objectives

The undergraduate program in Film and Popular Arts is designed to train graduates for research/practical work in film, popular arts, creative industries, and related fields. Graduates of the Film and Popular Arts program will be capable of researching and shaping the national film and popular arts scene, introducing major global film/popular arts trends to Vietnam and promoting Vietnamese film/art abroad. They will also be able to directly participate in the life and dynamics of contemporary popular culture, stay updated on audience dynamics and the dynamics of artistic taste, and integrate into the context of cultural globalization.

2.2 Specific Objectives

- To equip learners with a system of fundamental knowledge about cinema and popular arts, including general knowledge, basic knowledge of social sciences and humanities, core knowledge of the field, and practical knowledge about cinema and popular arts;

- To develop in learners a system of professional and supplementary skills necessary to meet the requirements of professions related to film and art, including research, theoretical criticism, teaching, journalism, publishing, media, film and television screenwriting, creation of popular and digital content (especially on Internet platforms), directing, production, distribution, publishing, curation, archiving, monitoring and management of cultural, film and popular art activities;

- To cultivate in students an attitude of respect for the artistic heritage of the nation and humanity, to develop self-reliance, to take responsibility for professional conclusions and to defend their personal viewpoints, and to strive towards appropriate codes of conduct in their profession.

PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

1. Regarding knowledge

PLO 01: Applying basic knowledge of political theory, philosophy, economics, sociology, law, and technology to understand and address academic and real-life issues in the contemporary context;

PLO 02: Applying fundamental knowledge of academic standards, professional ethics, creative thinking, design thinking, entrepreneurship, information technology, and AI tools to analyze and solve professional and life problems in the context of the digital age;

PLO 03: Applying knowledge and research methods from the social sciences and humanities to creatively address real-life issues from an interdisciplinary perspective;

PLO 04: Applying fundamental theoretical knowledge of film methodology and the history of popular art in the context of digitalization and globalization to analyze and evaluate specific cases;

PLO 05: Develop an interdisciplinary knowledge system on culture, creative industries, media, and in-depth professional knowledge oriented towards film and popular arts training programs for application in diverse professional activities;

PLO 06: Systematizing in-depth knowledge in specialized fields within Cinema and Popular Arts, including:

+ Screenwriting - Film and Popular Arts Criticism: Systematically acquire knowledge of film and television screenwriting and apply it to the practice of creating specific scripts; apply interdisciplinary knowledge of literature and film to practice and research the issue of adapting scripts from verbal art works into films; apply contemporary film and popular arts research theories in the analysis, criticism, promotion, and communication of film and popular arts works;

+ Film Production, Distribution, and Consumption of Popular Arts and Cinema: Applying knowledge of film production, distribution, and archiving to analyze and practice tasks related to the film industry; systematizing knowledge of film project management and film funding in analyzing and practicing film economics and funding sources; applying theories of art communication and cultural consumption to promote, communicate, and distribute film and popular arts products in the film and arts market.

PLO 07: Applying the knowledge provided to undertake professional training in relevant specialized fields and conducting in-depth research on a specific film or art issue or phenomenon; or developing a film/stage script; or developing a project outline for creative practice in the areas of curating, producing, archiving, promoting, distributing, and releasing films/popular art works.

2. Regarding skills

PLO 08: Mastering writing and presentation skills to communicate, exchange, and critically analyze professional expertise, and utilizing cinematic and popular art materials to adapt to future career fields such as teaching film and popular art; journalism, media, and television; screenwriting and film criticism; film production, film and art curation; promotion, communication, distribution, and release of films and popular art products; content creation on online platforms;

PLO 09: Possesses interactive and collaborative skills in group activities, capable of evaluating the quality of work after completion and the performance of team members;

PLO 10: Possesses skills in researching and utilizing digital learning resources and materials, applying information technology to search, collect, and store information and data in the fields of film, art, and culture; proposing ideas, collecting and processing information, implementing and completing a research project on film, art, and culture;

PLO 11: Possesses systemic thinking, creativity, and proactiveness in implementing and solving problems related to film, art, and culture; able to define their position and role within overall issues; capable of starting and managing projects in their professional field;

PLO 12: Proficiency in academic English in the social sciences and humanities in academic and professional environments at level B1, equivalent to level 3 (according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework used in Vietnam) as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training and Hanoi National University.

3. Level of autonomy and responsibility

PLO 13: Capable of self-directing work, defending personal viewpoints, proactively seeking and creating new things in the fields of film, art, and culture to create job positions related to expertise. Developing a habit of self-learning, self-research, and self-acquiring interdisciplinary knowledge to meet the requirements of working in various fields of film, art, and culture;

PLO 14: Capable of working independently or in a team; capable of taking personal and team responsibility; able to participate in team building; operate, develop, and adapt the team to suit circumstances and achieve high work efficiency;

PLO 15: Responsible and trustworthy in work. Possesses a scientific and objective mindset, independent thinking, academic ethics, and an acceptance of the diversity of aesthetic values. Independent, confident, critical, and rational in their thinking. Open-minded, accepting of new things and differences to proactively adapt to the work environment.

4. Job positions that students can take on after graduation.

Graduates with a university degree in Film and Popular Arts can take on jobs such as:

- Screenwriting for film, television, stage, and various multimedia works;

- Research, theoretical and critical analysis of cinema and popular art at research institutes and media, cultural and artistic organizations;

- Teaching film and popular arts in high schools, colleges, and universities;

- Directing, producing, distributing, and archiving films and other popular art products;

- Project manager and coordinator for film, theater, and popular arts;

- Film curator and art curator for arts organizations, art distribution and publishing units;

- Art and film communication at film production units, multimedia communication units, mass art communication units, art product distribution and publishing units, and cultural product production units;

- Consulting, developing, and managing thematic exhibition activities and programs for museums, art galleries, art and multimedia exhibition spaces;

- Monitoring, advising, and managing film, television, arts, and cultural activities in cultural, archival, and information agencies, government agencies, organizations, and businesses that require such services;

- Creating digital content; developing content for promotional and communication activities of agencies, organizations, businesses, localities, etc.;

- Journalism, media, and publishing related to film, art, and culture.

5. Opportunities for further learning and professional development after graduation.

After graduating from the undergraduate program in Film and Popular Arts, students can apply for or be considered for admission to master's and doctoral programs at Hanoi National University (Film and Television Theory and History, Literature, Journalism, Public Relations, Linguistics, Vietnamese Studies, International Studies, Anthropology, Cultural Studies, Cultural Management, etc.) as well as other domestic and international institutions training in film, art studies, and cultural management, according to the postgraduate admission regulations of Hanoi National University and the Ministry of Education and Training.
