PART I: GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THE TRAINING PROGRAM

2. Objectives of the training program

2.1. General Objectives

The undergraduate Literature program is designed to train graduates with fundamental knowledge of social sciences and humanities, politics, and law; a comprehensive and in-depth foundation in literary theory, Vietnamese literature, and world literature; the capacity to research, preserve, and promote the value of national literary heritage; and the ability to introduce Vietnamese literary achievements internationally and to receive and introduce the literary values ​​of humanity into Vietnam. Graduates of the Literature program are capable of undertaking jobs in professional fields related to literature (research, teaching literature at the secondary, college, and university levels; working in journalism, publishing, and media; literary creation and content creation; managing, organizing, and coordinating cultural, literary, and artistic activities) to meet the needs of society and employers.

2.2. Specific Objectives

- To equip learners with a fundamental and systematic knowledge of literature, including general knowledge, foundational knowledge of social sciences and humanities, core knowledge of the field, and practical knowledge of literature;

- To develop in learners a system of professional and supplementary skills necessary to meet the requirements of professions related to literature and art, including research, teaching, journalism, publishing, media, content creation, management and organization of cultural and literary and artistic activities;

- To cultivate in students an attitude of respect for the literary heritage of the nation and humanity, to develop self-reliance, to take responsibility for professional conclusions and to defend personal viewpoints, and to strive for appropriate professional conduct.

PART II: LEARNING OUTCOMES OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

1. Regarding knowledge

PLO 01: Applying basic knowledge of political theory, philosophy, economics, sociology, law, and technology to understand and address academic and real-life issues in the contemporary context;

PLO 02: Applying fundamental knowledge of academic standards, professional ethics, creative thinking, design thinking, entrepreneurship, information technology, and AI tools to analyze and solve professional and life problems in the context of the digital age;

PLO 03: Applying knowledge and research methods from the social sciences and humanities to clarify life's issues from an interdisciplinary perspective;

PLO 04: Applying comprehensive knowledge of literary theory and history of Vietnamese literature and other literary traditions and regions around the world in analyzing and evaluating specific literary issues and phenomena;

PLO 05: Building an interdisciplinary knowledge system on culture and arts for application in diverse professional activities;

PLO 06: Systematizing in-depth knowledge in specialized fields within literature, including:

+ Folklore and popular culture: This system provides an overall picture of the field of folklore and popular culture research, synthesizes the basic characteristics of typical cultural relics related to Vietnamese folk literature, and develops ideas and plans for organizing folk culture events;

+ Vietnamese Literature: Analyze the relationship between the development of Vietnamese literature and the process of forming national identity, establish a system of knowledge about canon and canonization in Vietnamese literature, and explain the issues of Vietnamese literature from the perspective of gender theory;

+ Foreign Literature: Analyze the cultural, social, historical, and linguistic impacts that occur during the translation of literary texts - viewed from the perspective of translation theory; apply modern Western literary criticism theory in the analysis of literary works; systematize knowledge of comparative literature and apply it to specific research;

+ Literary theory: Identifying the relationship between literature and other art forms, applying posthumanistic theories, literary theories, and intercultural communication theories to specific studies of literary works, literary phenomena, and cultural and artistic events.

PLO 07: Apply the knowledge provided to practice in relevant professional fields and conduct in-depth research on a specific literary and artistic issue or phenomenon.

2. Regarding skills

PLO 08: Mastering writing and presentation skills to communicate, exchange, and critically analyze professional knowledge, and utilizing literary and artistic materials to adapt to future professional fields such as teaching literature, journalism and media, promotion, writing, content creation, publishing, criticism, and screenwriting.

PLO 09: Possesses interactive and collaborative skills in group activities, capable of evaluating the quality of work after completion and the performance of team members;

PLO 10: Possesses skills in researching and utilizing digital learning resources and materials, applying information technology to search for and collect information and data in the fields of literature, art, and culture; proposing ideas, collecting and processing information, implementing and completing a research project in literature, art, and culture;

PLO 11: Possesses the ability to think systematically, creatively, and proactively in implementing and solving problems related to literature, art, and culture; able to define their position and role within overall issues; capable of starting and managing projects in their professional field;

PLO 12: Proficiency in a foreign language (English or Chinese) in the academic field of social sciences and humanities in a learning and professional environment at level B1, equivalent to level 3 (according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam) as prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training and Hanoi National University.

3. Level of autonomy and responsibility 

PLO 13: Able to self-direct, draw professional conclusions, and defend one's viewpoint before others; capable of equipping oneself with interdisciplinary knowledge to meet the requirements of working in various fields of literary, artistic, and cultural activities;

PLO 14: Capable of working independently or in teams, capable of taking personal and team responsibility, able to participate in building, operating, developing, and adapting teams to suit circumstances and achieve high work efficiency;

PLO 15: Possesses a scientific and objective mindset, independent thinking, academic ethics, and an acceptance of the diversity of aesthetic values. Independent, confident, critical thinking, and rational in their understanding. Open-minded, accepting of new things and differences to proactively adapt to the work environment.

4. Job positions that students can take on after graduation.

Graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Literature can take on jobs such as:

- Research and criticism of literature and art at research institutes; colleges, universities, and academies; and professional organizations related to literature and art;

- Teaching and developing teaching materials and products to support the teaching of literature and linguistics in high schools, colleges, and universities;

- Working in the fields of journalism, media, editing, and publishing;

- Participate in building, developing, and managing cultural, literary, and artistic activities in state agencies related to culture and arts, information and archives; and organizations and businesses with needs;

- Creating literary and artistic works, producing cultural products, writing screenplays for films and television.

5. Opportunities for further learning and professional development after graduation.

After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Literature, students can apply for or be considered for admission to Master's and Doctoral programs offered by the Faculty of Literature (Literature, Film and Television Theory and History), as well as programs within the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Cultural Studies, Cultural Management, Journalism, Linguistics, Vietnamese Studies, Religious Studies, Anthropology, etc.). In addition, students can pursue further studies at domestic and international institutions specializing in Literature, Language and Literature Education, etc., in accordance with the regulations on postgraduate admissions and training of Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the Ministry of Education and Training.
