Receiving the delegation, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong – Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – stated that currently, VNU-USSH has nearly 12,000 students enrolled in almost 100 training programs from bachelor's to master's and doctoral levels. Of these, more than 1,000 international students study long-term and short-term programs each year, with approximately 80% coming from China. Among its more than 200 international partners across continents, the university leadership places great emphasis on maintaining regular and effective cooperation with universities, educational organizations, and research institutes in China. Currently, VNU-USSH has signed memoranda of understanding and implemented cooperation activities in research and training with many prestigious Chinese universities, such as Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Yunnan Normal University, etc.
In 2024, VNU-USSH organized a two-week credit-recognized exchange program for nearly 100 students at Honghe Academy, Guilin University of Science and Technology (China), and received very positive feedback.
Associate Professor Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong introduces the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and opportunities for cooperation.
Highly appreciating the effectiveness of cooperation activities between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and its Chinese partners in the past, Mr. Duong Quan, Secretary-General of the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), further shared: Established in 1981, CEAIE has built a network of hundreds of high schools, universities, and colleges in China as its members, and is the leading organization in many regional and international educational cooperation programs. Therefore, the Association expects to strengthen connections to promote and expand student exchanges between Vietnam and China through short-term or long-term 2+2 programs.
Mr. Duong Quan (seated in the middle) affirmed that the Association is ready to connect and expand cooperative relations between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and universities in China.
Mr. Duong Quan emphasized: "The specific and effective cooperation programs between the Association and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2025 will be practical activities to celebrate the important event: the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vietnam, and the year of people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and China."
During the meeting, representatives from both sides discussed specific areas of cooperation, including the exchange of lecturers, students, and pupils, and the joint organization of scientific research projects.
According to Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong, every year VNU-USSH has over 500 students choosing Chinese as their second foreign language, and many students from various disciplines wish to participate in exchange programs at Chinese universities. However, in reality, this activity is facing some difficulties: information about scholarship programs in China for Vietnamese students is not widely available, and the range of short-term programs suitable for students' fields of study and aspirations is limited.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu (Principal of the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities) shared: As the only high school in the country training in the field of social sciences, under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the High School for Gifted Students in Social Sciences and Humanities graduates over 100 students annually, with more than 30% expressing a desire to study abroad. The students possess strong proficiency in Chinese and English for academic and research purposes and aspire to study at a Chinese university. However, accessing information about suitable training programs and universities remains quite difficult. Principal Nguyen Quang Lieu expressed his hope that the Association would provide support and connections to help students access comprehensive information and register more easily.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Quang Lieu shared his views at the working session.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha (Director of the Center for Foreign Languages and Training Cooperation, VNU-USSH) shared some additional difficulties, especially the issue of funding for training programs offered by Chinese universities, which are not truly suitable for the majority of Vietnamese students. She expressed hope that, through the advisory and networking role of the Association, VNU-USSH students can access more support programs from the Chinese government and universities for international students.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha shared her views at the working session. Agreeing with the proposals and exchanges from the representatives of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Yang Jun, Secretary-General of the Chinese Association for International Education Exchange, pledged to strengthen the widespread and timely sharing of information about support programs for foreign students at universities belonging to the Association, as well as annual scholarships for outstanding students.
Also at the meeting, Mr. Trinh Dai Vi, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, affirmed that the Embassy is always ready to support the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in connecting and implementing cooperation activities with universities and educational organizations in China.
Mr. Trinh Dai Vi added that in 2025, in addition to the annual scholarships for students and faculty of the university to study in China, there will be a number of scholarships from the Chinese government awarded to outstanding students studying Chinese Studies, each worth approximately 3,000 yuan.
Mr. Trinh Dai Vi speaks at the working session.
Vice Rector Dang Thi Thu Huong expressed her sincere gratitude for the valuable support from the Chinese Embassy, as well as the valuable information shared by the Chinese Education Association on international exchange. She also pledged to disseminate this information to a large number of students throughout the school so that they have more opportunities to study at top universities in China and receive valuable scholarships.
