History of formation
The Faculty of Political Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is the first institution to offer a Political Science program in the higher education system in Vietnam. The Faculty of Political Science was established by a decision signed by the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on September 27, 2011. Its predecessor was the Department of Political Science and Ho Chi Minh Thought, established on October 24, 1995, under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. To date, the Faculty has a rich tradition of nearly 30 years of development. Since 2005, the Faculty has been tasked by Vietnam National University, Hanoi and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with training master's and doctoral students in Political Science and Ho Chi Minh Studies; in 2008, the Faculty was assigned the task of training bachelor's students in Political Science. By 2012, the first cohort of students from the Faculty (QH.2008-CTH) had graduated.
Mission
The Faculty of Political Science has the mission of disseminating knowledge and meeting society's needs for highly trained human resources in Political Science – individuals capable of conducting political research and practice, and competent to work in fields requiring a deep understanding of Political Science. The Faculty's future development orientation is to build it into the leading training and research unit in political science in Vietnam.
Vision 2035:
To become a reputable training and research center with an integrated and innovative approach to Political Science, reflecting Vietnamese identity and meeting the needs of the domestic and international labor markets.
Outstanding achievements
To date, the Faculty has trained over 400 postgraduate students, over 100 doctoral candidates, and over 700 undergraduate students; organized 10 training courses for lecturers on Ho Chi Minh Thought, with over 500 graduates, the majority of whom are lecturers at universities and colleges nationwide. Currently, there are 209 undergraduate students, 65 postgraduate students, 55 doctoral candidates, and 32 short-term students studying at the Faculty. The Faculty's postgraduate and short-term training programs are not only organized in Hanoi but also in many provinces and cities across the country.
