History of formation

  • 1973: Library Science was trained at the Faculty of History, Hanoi University of Science (now the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi)
  • 1996: Department of Information - Library was established and trained in Information - Library program, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
  • 2004-present: Faculty of Information - Library was established with the current organizational structure including 3 departments: Information Management, Information - Documentation and Library - Bibliography.
Mission
The Faculty of Information and Library Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU has the mission of being a pioneer in scientific research and training high-quality human resources in the field of information management and information and library science to serve the cause of national construction and development.
Target
- To become a leading Faculty of information management and information - library training in the country and on par with advanced training institutions in the region and the world at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels of information - library science.
- Leading in scientific research in information management, knowledge management and library science, bringing the Vietnamese information and library industry to integrate and develop towards the DIGITAL FUTURE.
- Become a prestigious address in development cooperation between Vietnam and international in the field of information management and library science.
Development orientation
- Strengthen cooperation with domestic training institutions, agencies and organizations. Seek opportunities to expand cooperation with universities and international organizations to develop training and scientific research.
- With the goal of human-centered development, the Faculty promotes the development of a team of staff with deep expertise in the fields of information management, information - library, foreign language proficiency and international publishing capabilities.
Philosophy of Education
Based on the philosophy of "Liberal Education" of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities as stated in Official Dispatch No. 1765/XHNV-DBCL dated July 14, 2017, the Faculty of Information and Library Science uses this philosophy as the foundation for the faculty's educational philosophy. Specifically, it is interpreted as follows:
Aiming to help learners achieve sustainable success and true happiness - live with themselves, be themselves; become free people, responsible citizens and excellent experts; encourage commitment and live up to their dignity.
Freedom and commitment: learners will look at problems from many different perspectives, always be ready to challenge all available knowledge, have a critical spirit; have an open spirit, be ready to step out of their comfort zone, learn about neighboring fields of knowledge, develop proactively and sustainably, have the ability to discover and take advantage of their own opportunities in the future.
Excellent professionals: always believe in practical learning, promote self-discovery of knowledge, maintain self-awareness in lifelong learning; accumulate transferable skills and thus adapt to different contexts in life; have the goal of becoming experts in the field of information - library and information management; have good leadership and management skills.
Responsible citizens: have a strong sense of values, ethics, and strive to practice their civic roles, participate in the common issues of their collective, community, and profession; understand and carefully consider their actions; and be aware of their place in the natural and social world.
Outstanding achievements
As a unit with a long history of achievements and prestige in training in the field of Information and Library Science in Vietnam, the Faculty has trained many generations of mature students, who have held and are holding important positions in major information agencies and libraries nationwide. During its formation and development, the Faculty has been honored to receive many certificates of merit and awards at all levels honoring the contributions and achievements of the Faculty, typically as follows:
  • Third Class Labor Medal (2 times)
  • Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister
  • Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training
  • Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism
  • Emulation flag of Hanoi National University
  • Certificate of Merit from the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi
  • Excellent Labor Collective for 16 consecutive years
