The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil to Vietnam visits and works at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

On the afternoon of April 8, 2022, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities) received Mr. Fernando Apparício da Silva (Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Vietnam) and Ms. Juliana Benedetti (Cultural Counselor of the Brazilian Embassy in Vietnam) who were visiting and working in Vietnam.

During the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan introduced the general history, outstanding achievements, and key objectives in training and scientific research of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. He emphasized: “The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a core unit of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, with a tradition spanning over 60 years. The University is focusing its resources on achieving its goal of becoming a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research university by 2035, with a team of leading experts; developing several new and pioneering training disciplines and specializations that play a core role in training and research at regional and international levels. To achieve this goal, expanding cooperation in many fields with countries and educational and research organizations worldwide is one of the strategic solutions that the University's Board of Directors highly values.”

Professor Hoang Anh Tuan (the school's principal) expressed his pleasure and honor in welcoming representatives from the Brazilian Embassy to visit the school.

Brazilian Ambassador Fernando Apparício da Silva expressed his delight at visiting one of the most renowned and historically rich universities in Vietnam. The Ambassador shared that, although the University of Social Sciences and Humanities currently does not have any official cooperation with any universities or research institutes in Brazil, based on the existing friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries, the Brazilian Embassy and the Ambassador personally will act as a bridge to promote cooperation in the future, especially in the areas of training and scientific research, which are the strengths of the University.

Also at the meeting, Ambassador Fernando Apparício da Silva cordially invited the Rector and scientists of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to attend the online seminar: “200 Years of Brazilian Independence: Geopolitics from the Process of Gaining Independence and the Brazilian Exceptionalism”, to be held on May 11, 2022. Professor Hoang Anh Tuan happily accepted the invitation and committed to sending an expert in history and geopolitics to attend the seminar.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan thanked the Ambassador personally and the Brazilian Embassy for their interest in the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and expressed hope that in the future, through the Embassy's role as a connector, the University would establish diverse and effective cooperative relationships with universities, research institutes, and educational organizations in Brazil.

SOME MILESTONES IN VIETNAM-BRAZIL DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS

  • On May 8, 1989, Vietnam and Brazil signed an agreement to establish diplomatic relations, ushering in a long and stable period of cooperation for bilateral relations.
  • In 2007, Vietnam and Brazil officially upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive partnership, and bilateral relations between the two countries have become increasingly diverse and profound.
  • As of 2021, Vietnam and Brazil had signed 15 bilateral agreements in a wide range of fields such as healthcare, science and technology, maritime transport, and aviation services.
