Enhancing academic exchanges between Vietnam and Thailand on training and development in social work.

This activity is part of a study and exchange program by a delegation from Thammasat University, aimed at learning about social work, social policies, and social development models; and also providing an opportunity for faculty and students from both universities to share experiences, exchange academic knowledge, and strengthen connections in the field of social sciences.

Attending the meeting, on behalf of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang - Deputy Director of the Institute of Policy, Innovation and Interdisciplinary Science and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhu Trang - Lecturer in the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work. On behalf of Thammasat University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Madee Limsakul - Director of the Master of Social Work Program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pinhathai Nunuan - Deputy Director of the Program, along with lecturers, staff and postgraduate students of the Program.

One of the topics that received much attention at the exchange was job opportunities and the professionalization process of social work. Drawing on experiences from Vietnam and Thailand, delegates shared insights into the development of the profession in recent years, thereby clarifying the differences in training systems, labor markets, and professionalization processes in the two countries.

In addition, delegates also discussed the role of evidence-based policy advocacy in promoting social work development. Three key elements were emphasized: (1) Maintaining professional voices and presence in policy forums; (2) Utilizing research and data as evidence; and (3) Enhancing the participation of NGOs and social partners. Research is considered a crucial foundation for transforming social issues from general perceptions into concrete evidence, helping policymakers better identify the scale, impact, and effectiveness of intervention options. The participation of NGOs also contributes practical experience, data, and resources, thereby strengthening their voices in the policy advocacy process.

In an open and positive atmosphere, the meeting contributed to strengthening international exchange and academic connections between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Thammasat University, while also opening up opportunities for further exchange and cooperation in training, research, and academic exchange in the future.
