The Interdisciplinary Workshop is a long-standing collaborative tradition between the Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language departments for over 10 years. This collaboration and exchange has helped the two departments initially develop a modern academic style, harmonizing academic and empirical approaches. The Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language departments aim to focus on researching the content and teaching methods of Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies in a direct and concrete manner, addressing the challenges and opportunities in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The workshop was held using a hybrid format, combining in-person and online participation.
This conference brought together nearly 30 presentations from faculty members of both departments, focusing on areas such as: Vietnamese language teaching methods and Vietnamese linguistics; accreditation and evaluation frameworks; Vietnamese culture and history; Vietnamese literature and art; interdisciplinary theory, etc. The reports and presentations provided diverse findings and perspectives on research methods, teaching methods, research content, teaching content, research orientation, and curriculum. The research topics sparked many valuable insights into how to teach the language in special situations, opening up several important ideas for exploring innovative models and evaluation in universities. The interdisciplinary element and the unique identity of Vietnamese studies were also emphasized through the research questions, research implementation, and research conclusions of the authors.

On behalf of the Leadership Board of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa affirmed the importance of promoting research in Vietnamese Studies and the Vietnamese language to serve the cause of national development. The interdisciplinary conference is an opportunity for scientists to exchange and share knowledge and experience to strengthen the theoretical and practical foundations of this field. At the same time, the conference also helps to increase solidarity and connection between the two leading training institutions in the field of Vietnamese Studies and the Vietnamese language in Vietnam. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Minh Hoa hopes that the knowledge and experience shared in the conference will be translated into training and consulting activities in practice. These scientific activities will contribute to enhancing the position and prestige of the two organizing units.

On behalf of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam (Deputy Head of Faculty) shared that the 2020 Interfaculty Scientific Conference was held in the context of the Faculty embarking on a new path after 10 years of successfully developing the Bachelor of Vietnamese Studies program, 5 years of operating the Master of Vietnamese Studies program, and 2 years of finalizing the documentation for the Vietnamese Studies program in English. The prospects of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language depend heavily on the achievements of the scientists and educators within the Faculty. The overall picture of the Faculty's lecturers and collaborators is composed of bright spots from research topics with distinctive personalities and rich scientific content.
Following the opening ceremony, the workshop featured presentations on: “The riverine environment in the cultural life of the Vietnamese people in the Northern Delta through folk songs and proverbs” by Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Anh; “Towards interdisciplinary knowledge creation in Vietnamese studies and Vietnamese language research” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Chi Hoa; “An approach to teaching content on traditional Vietnamese musical performance art forms linked to the human life cycle in Vietnamese studies” by Dr. Nguyen Dinh Lam; “A survey of teaching grammar content expressing the action of suggesting in Vietnamese language textbooks for foreigners” by Dr. Vu Lan Huong; and “Interrogative pronouns in Vietnamese and considerations when teaching to foreigners” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Van Thi.
