10 outstanding achievements of the 2013-2014 school year

The Center for Journalism and Communication would like to review the outstanding achievements of the School in the past school year.

1. Complete the Project of Planning the School's training sectors and majors by 2020Accordingly, by 2020, the School will have 38 master's training majors and 32 doctoral training majors. Based on a specific survey of social needs and training capacity of each unit, the Project sets out a roadmap for building new training majors and majors to ensure the reasonable and sustainable development of the School in the future.

2. Open 01 new industry and 02 new training majors:started enrolling students for the Office Administration major in 2014; built the first CLC training program in Psychology; introduced 02 new postgraduate training programs: PhD in International Relations and PhD in Anthropology. The school continues to demonstrate its pioneering role in opening new majors and majors to serve social needs on the basis of the school's strong basic science majors. Up to now, the school has 22 bachelor training majors, 57 master and doctoral training majors.

3. The scale of doctoral enrollment has more than doubled.With the policy of maintaining the scale of university training and expanding the scale of postgraduate training, the School is gradually approaching the criteria of a research-oriented university, gradually increasing the research content in activities, and promoting the connection between training and research activities. The School especially focuses on high-level training, especially doctoral training. Currently, there are more than 300 PhD students studying at the School.

4. Number of research topics large scale rapid growthwith 14 State-level topics, 17 Nafosted Fund topics, 03 Hanoi-level topics and dozens of University and VNU-level topics. The school's staff has won many science and technology awards at all levels, 05 books have won Good Book awards, and 02 research groups have been recognized as strong research groups at VNU-level. This shows the strong scientific potential of the staff, the flexibility and initiative in building research topics, and finding funding sources. In addition, it shows that the policies to encourage and motivate scientific research activities and international publications of the school have initially shown effectiveness.

5. The number of internationally published works nearly doubled.In the 2013-2014 academic year, the University's staff published 44 works abroad, double that of the previous year (23 international publications in the 2012-2013 academic year), including 05 articles published in journals in the Scopus index. This is one of the important indicators to improve the University's research university ranking.

6.Organized 28 scientific seminars and workshops, including 19 international seminars and workshops., with the participation of partners and famous scientists at home and abroad, thereby enhancing the position and prestige of the School. Some seminars have caused great resonance in the research community and society such as "Vietnam in world history", "60 years of Vietnam - France - EU", "United Nations peacekeeping forces: international practices and experiences for Vietnam", "From Dien Bien Phu to Geneva, seen from an international perspective" ...

7. Strengthen international cooperation in depthby signing and renewing 20 cooperation documents with high-ranking partners in the world such as Inha University (Korea), National Taiwan University, University of Glasgow (UK), Korean Institute of Legislative Studies, University of Adelaide..., bringing the total number of international cooperation documents to 199. On that basis, many international research programs and projects with major universities have been and are being effectively implemented, helping to increase development resources and enhance the international position of the University.

8. The number of qualified staff is increasing rapidly.: 17 staff successfully defended their doctoral theses, 08 lecturers were appointed to the titles of Professor and Associate Professor. The number of lecturers with a postgraduate degree is 329/365 (accounting for more than 90%), including 181 PhDs (accounting for 50%), 06 Professors and 84 Associate Professors (accounting for 25%). This is a much higher rate than other universities and compared to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training. In addition, the Project on developing a team of highly qualified scientists and managers by 2020, with a vision to 2030, has also been completed, laying the foundation for building a team of qualified staff, meeting the development requirements of the University.

9. Completed the assessment of the Bachelor of Linguistics program according to AUN standards.With this event, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has taken a step forward in evaluating lecturers’ lectures and assessing training quality according to regional and international standards. Currently, quality assessment and quality culture have become indispensable elements in the training and research activities of the University.

10. Continue to expand the working and learning area in the School.During the last school year, the School completed the renovation of Building A, and organized the renovation of Building M; implemented phase 2 of upgrading the equipment of the Center for Journalism and Communication along with meeting rooms and lecture halls, practically contributing to improving the quality of training, research and activities of the School.
