10 outstanding achievements of the 2013-2014 school year

In the 2013-2014 academic year, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities continued its efforts to develop the university towards a research-oriented model, gradually bringing the quality of training and research to international standards. In this context, the university made solid progress in various aspects of its activities, including training, research, international cooperation, faculty development, and infrastructure development.

10 outstanding achievements of the 2013-2014 school year

The Center for Journalism and Communication Studies would like to highlight the outstanding achievements of the School during the past academic year.

1. Complete the School's Training Program and Specialization Planning Project up to 2020.Accordingly, by 2020, the University will have 38 master's degree programs and 32 doctoral degree programs. Based on specific surveys of social needs and the training capacity of each unit, the Project outlines a roadmap for developing new programs and specializations to ensure the rational and sustainable development of the University in the future.

2. We are opening one new major and two new specializations in our training programs:The university began admitting students to its Office Management program in 2014; it also established its first high-quality Psychology program; and introduced two new postgraduate programs: a PhD in International Relations and a PhD in Anthropology. The university continues to demonstrate its pioneering role in opening new majors and specializations to serve societal needs, building upon its strong foundation in basic sciences. To date, the university offers 22 undergraduate programs and 57 master's and doctoral specializations.

3. The enrollment size for doctoral programs has more than doubled.With the aim of maintaining the scale of undergraduate training and expanding postgraduate training, the University is gradually approaching the criteria of a research-oriented university, increasing the research content in its activities, and strengthening the connection between training and research. The University places particular emphasis on high-level training, especially doctoral training. Currently, there are more than 300 doctoral candidates studying at the University.

4. Number of research topics large scale rapid increaseWith 14 state-level projects, 17 Nafosted Fund projects, 3 Hanoi City-level projects, and dozens of projects at the University and VNU levels, the university's staff has won numerous science and technology awards at various levels. Five books have won the "Best Book" award, and two research groups have been recognized as strong research groups at the VNU level. This demonstrates the strong scientific potential of the staff, their flexibility and proactiveness in developing research projects, and their ability to seek funding. Furthermore, it shows that the University's policies to encourage and motivate scientific research and international publications have begun to yield positive results.

5. The number of internationally published works has nearly doubled.During the 2013-2014 academic year, faculty members of the University published 44 papers abroad, double the number from the previous year (23 international publications in the 2012-2013 academic year), including 5 articles published in Scopus-indexed journals. This is one of the important indicators that has improved the University's ranking as a research university.

6.The organization held 28 scientific workshops and seminars, including 19 international workshops and seminars.With the participation of renowned domestic and international partners and scientists, the university's position and prestige have been enhanced. Several conferences have made a significant impact on the research community and society, such as "Vietnam in World History," "60 Years of Vietnam - France - EU," "United Nations Peacekeeping Forces: International Practices and Experiences for Vietnam," and "From Dien Bien Phu to Geneva, Viewed from an International Perspective"...

7. Strengthening international cooperation in depthBy signing and renewing 20 cooperation agreements with top-ranked partners worldwide such as Inha University (South Korea), National Taiwan University, University of Glasgow (UK), the Korea Legislative Research Institute, University of Adelaide, etc., the total number of international cooperation agreements has reached 199. Based on this, many international research programs and projects with major universities have been and are being effectively implemented, helping to increase resources for development and enhance the university's international standing.

8. The number of qualified staff is increasing rapidly.Seventeen faculty members successfully defended their doctoral dissertations, and eight lecturers were appointed to the titles of Professor and Associate Professor. The number of lecturers with postgraduate degrees is 329 out of 365 (over 90%), including 181 PhDs (50%), 6 Professors, and 84 Associate Professors (25%). This is a significantly higher rate than other universities and compared to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training. In addition, the Project for the Development of a High-Level Scientific and Management Team by 2020, with a vision to 2030, has been completed, providing a basis for building a qualified staff to meet the development requirements of the University.

9. Completed the evaluation of the Bachelor of Linguistics program according to AUN standards.With this event, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities has taken a step forward in evaluating lecturers' lectures and accrediting the quality of training according to regional and international standards. Currently, quality accreditation and a culture of quality have become indispensable elements in the University's training and research activities.

10. Continue to expand the working and learning space within the School.During the past academic year, the School completed the renovation and expansion of building A, and also carried out the renovation of building M; implemented phase 2 of upgrading the equipment of the Center for Journalism and Communication Studies, as well as meeting rooms and lecture halls, practically contributing to improving the quality of training, research and other activities of the School.
