The bookPeople's diplomacy in US foreign relationsby Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy (Faculty of International Studies) focuses on presenting, analyzing and proving specifically and scientifically the aspects related to people's diplomacy activities such as: functions, objectives, legal basis, organizational structure, management system and specific forms of people's diplomacy activities of the US. This activity was carried out very early in the US and had many favorable conditions for implementation; therefore, it has many rich and diverse forms, supplementing state diplomatic activities.
Through many periods and changes in historical situations, American people's diplomacy has proven its role as a "soft power" that has been increasingly used by American governments to persuade and appeal to the public in other countries around the world and even the American public. In fact, people's diplomacy has contributed to ensuring national security, serving economic development, improving and gradually enhancing the position and image of the United States in the international arena. From there, the book highlights the fundamental differences as well as the outstanding advantages of this activity in the United States compared to other countries. In particular, it also emphasizes the people's diplomacy that the United States has carried out in Vietnam and draws specific lessons for people's diplomacy activities in Vietnam. The book will provide readers with useful and valuable information, helping diplomats and planners to have foreign policies suitable to the new situation of our country and the world. The book consists of 232 pages, published in December 2009.
