On April 17, 2018, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) in collaboration with Vietnam Social Security organized a scientific workshop on "Communication on social insurance and health insurance policies: Current status and solutions to improve effectiveness" to evaluate the methods and effectiveness of communication on social insurance (SI) and health insurance (HI) policies today, as well as propose appropriate solutions to meet social needs.

This is the first time in Vietnam that a scientific workshop on social insurance and health insurance policy communication has been held with the participation of three professional groups, including: managers and operators implementing social insurance and health insurance policies; researchers and journalists - media; and journalists. Specifically, the workshop discussed the theoretical basis, models and methods of policy communication in general and social insurance and health insurance policies in particular in the context of Vietnamese society and the 4.0 media era. At the same time, the workshop summarized and evaluated the practical implementation of communication activities on social insurance and health insurance policies on all channels such as: print media, radio, television, electronic information portals, electronic newspapers and social networks. Through that, the workshop created a space for dialogue between the three groups to enhance understanding and improve mutual capacity to achieve communication goals on social insurance and health insurance policies in the coming time. In particular, by 2020, the goal is to have 50% of workers participating in social insurance; 35% of workers participating in unemployment insurance and 90% of the population participating in health insurance.

The workshop attracted more than 30 presentations from leaders, managers, scientists, experts and prestigious journalists, published in the scientific proceedings. These included reports on typical groups of topics such as: the results achieved so far, weaknesses, points that need to be focused on in communicating social insurance and health insurance policies in the coming time for press agencies; prominent issues reflected on the implementation of current social insurance and health insurance policies in various types of press; social criticism of press agencies on social insurance and health insurance; application of new communication methods on social networks and communication models with people's participation in promoting the implementation of social insurance and health insurance policies, etc.
