COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

After graduation, students majoring in Social Work can work in the field of community development as Community Development Project Officers, Community Development Project Assistants, and Community Development Project Communications Officers. Their duties and responsibilities include:
  • Develop quarterly activity plans;
  • Monitor progress and supervise the quality of operations;
  • Support partners in developing their activities;
  • Monitor spending progress and balance the budget;
  • Translate documents to be sent to partner organizations;
  • Exchange information with partners regarding project progress;
  • Organize or support training programs;
  • Organize/support communication activities.
Requirements regarding abilities, personality, and soft skills:
  • Fluent in spoken English;
  • Proficient in using office software;
  • Skills in planning, monitoring, motivating, teamwork, communication, and research;
  • Ready to go far.
Recruiting units:
  • State social development agencies (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, etc.);
  • Research and training centers;
  • Non-governmental and international organizations.

SOCIAL WORKERS

Working in organizations involved in assisting disadvantaged groups in society, participating in policy advocacy, policy planning related to traditions and culture, individual education, community behavior change. Responsibilities and tasks include:
  • Accepting vulnerable groups (people with disabilities, women who have experienced violence, etc.);
  • Understand the client's problem.
  • Assisting clients in solving problems and connecting them with relevant resources;
  • Unlocking potential and enhancing clients' capabilities (through group activities, counseling, etc.);
  • Assessing, monitoring, diagnosing, and identifying issues within the community; seeking information on matters of concern; conveying the information gained to the community; then mobilizing community participation on these issues; and gradually advocating for policy development.
Required competencies, personality traits, and soft skills: Critical thinking and judgment; Sensitivity and perseverance; Excellent listening and communication skills; Ability to maintain confidentiality. Recruiting organizations:
  • State-run centers that support vulnerable groups (social welfare centers, shelters, open houses, charity homes, etc.)
  • Non-governmental organizations operate in the fields of children, people with disabilities, health, etc.
  • State agencies: Schools, Hospitals, Child Protection Department…
Career prospects: Currently, there is a huge demand for social workers in the fields of individual and group social work. At Vietnamese and international non-governmental organizations such as Blue Dragon and CEPHAD, there are already social work graduates working in child care and protection, but this number is still insufficient to meet the actual needs.

SOCIAL WORK ADMINISTRATOR

Tasks and jobs to be done:
  • Managing social work networks;
  • Providing advice on policy development for vulnerable groups in society;
  • Monitor the policy implementation process and make recommendations for amendments and additions.
Requirements regarding competencies, personality, and soft skills:
  • Analytical skills;
  • Writing skills;
  • Leadership ability;
  • Decisive.
Recruiting units:
  • Relevant departments and agencies involved in social policy development (Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, etc.);
  • State-run social work centers;
  • Non-governmental organizations.
Career development prospects: Social workers are still lacking in the involvement of government agencies and departments responsible for drafting and enacting policies. Currently, this is a relatively new field for social workers, with significant potential for growth.

TRAINING AND RESEARCH STAFF IN DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS

Tasks and jobs to be done:
  • Understand the needs of the community;
  • Develop a curriculum and content (suitable for the purpose and target audience of each project, and the needs of the learners);
  • Organize or support training programs;
  • Participate in project training implementation;
  • Evaluating the project's training activities.
