On April 12, 2010, the President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU signed Decision No. 588/QD-XHNV-KH on the main orientation and tasks in the scientific research work of the University in the period 2010-2020.
On April 12, 2010, the President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU signed Decision No. 588/QD-XHNV-KH on the main orientation and tasks in the scientific research work of the University in the period 2010-2020.The content of the above document clearly states the goal: "Building the University into a leading university in the country in social sciences and humanities, reaching the level of advanced universities in the region, effectively serving the cause of industrialization, modernization of the country and international integration". In the current trend of science and technology development, the construction of scientific orientations of the University is determined to both ensure comprehensive development and create preferential conditions for a number of fields of study with the ability, potential, and outstanding development, becoming fields of study reaching international standards. Scientific orientations must demonstrate new research perspectives and scientific thinking in the direction of building interdisciplinary and regional projects. Topics and projects must both contribute to clarifying the specificity of Vietnamese history, culture and society and must be placed in a comparative relationship, in line with the scientific development trends of the region and the world. In the period of 2010-2020 and the following years, the School focuses on implementing the following 8 basic research orientations: 1. Researching theoretical issues, solving theoretical issues, theories, viewpoints, and research methods in the scope of social sciences and humanities to contribute to building a theoretical foundation and solid scientific arguments for building a development doctrine. Research works are both theoretical in nature but can also be the application of theories and research methods (especially new theories, methods, and research viewpoints) to the implementation of one or a system of specific scientific issues suitable to Vietnamese practice, while finding out the characteristics and laws of movement and development of Vietnamese society. 2. Focus on developing major interdisciplinary research topics, regional research, research on major issues requiring the simultaneous participation of many scientific disciplines, thereby analyzing and establishing arguments and scientific bases for building management mechanisms, development strategies, research and forecasting issues of social sciences and humanities, socio-economic issues of the country in the first half of the 21st century; the ability to respond to changes in nature, in the international and regional political environment: trends in social movement and development, economic life... and the impacts of natural conditions, society and world political life on our country. 3. Develop research topics to focus on clarifying historical, cultural, social characteristics, natural conditions, and ecological environment to further promote regional and inter-regional research, development processes, struggles for national unity and reconciliation, etc. Research topics need to focus on clarifying the formation, development, and decline of cultures, ancient kingdoms, and empires; the process of exploring, expanding territory, and establishing the sovereignty of our Fatherland; socio-economic policies for new lands, the active role and subjectivity of the Vietnamese people as well as other ethnic groups in the Vietnamese ethnic community in the process of struggling to establish sovereignty, protect economic interests, and national cultural identity. 4. Research and further clarify the issue of cultural exchange and contact between cultures, ethnic cultural spaces, and cultural centers in our country throughout history. On the other hand, clearly define the concept of cultural regions, cultural spaces, advantages and characteristics of each cultural region associated with language, writing, customs, practices, cultural traditions; study migration flows, the lives of ethnic groups in border areas, clarify the unity and diversity of Vietnamese culture in the regional cultural context; study the penetration and influence of major religions, the localization process of religions and ideologies; the formation and role of indigenous beliefs and religions, the role of religion in modern society. 5. Study the factors affecting social change, social classes, social strata, interest groups, value systems; the emergence of new social strata, new values, social concepts as well as the possibility of development, multi-faceted consequences of those social relationships; the role of family, children, women; Gender issues, the elderly, cross-border marriage, social security system; government policies, the role of social organizations; cultural exchanges and contacts, cultural differences and conflicts between ethnic groups and communities in the current era of industrialization and international integration. 6. Focus on research on urbanization and urban society including urban types, issues of natural and social space in urban establishment and planning, urban management experience, and development of urban studies. Research on the development basis and characteristics of each type of urban area; research on population structure, urban anthropology and urbanization issues, economic and cultural activities of urban residents, civic awareness, community awareness, and law; The relationship between urban and rural areas to clarify the role of Vietnamese urban areas in history, clarify the models of development and typical characteristics of Vietnamese urban areas in comparison with other types of urban areas in the East and the world. 7. Research on the potential, cultural environment, marine economy, tradition of exploiting the sea and awareness of the sea of ​​our people in history; the process of struggling to establish sovereignty over territorial waters; exclusive zones and marine spaces, disputes over sovereignty at sea, maritime strategies of countries; population issues, migration to islands, cultural exchanges at sea and along the coast; each connection between the sea and the continent; tradition and ability to protect sovereignty over islands, regional security, protection of marine resources; research on maritime trade, international maritime law, challenges of the marine environment, trade routes and regional and international relations taking place in history, especially in the East Sea today. 8. Research and further clarify Vietnam's unique development path; our nation's position and political response in history, the process of fighting for national unification and protection of national independence; major policies and guidelines of our Party and State, achievements and lessons learned from the renovation process; the integration process with regional and international organizations such as ASEAN, ASEM, APEC, EU, WTO... policies of major countries (USA, China, Russia,...), international organizations with the region and Vietnam; bilateral and multilateral relations, especially Vietnam's relations with East Asian countries; opportunities and challenges that have been and are being posed to our country in the current process of industrialization, modernization and international integration.
