Orientation of scientific research activities for the period 2010-2020

On April 12, 2010, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, signed Decision No. 588/QD-XHNV-KH on the orientation and main tasks in the scientific research work of the University for the period 2010-2020.
On April 12, 2010, the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, signed Decision No. 588/QD-XHNV-KH on the orientation and main tasks in the scientific research work of the University for the period 2010-2020.The document clearly states the objective: "To build the University into a leading university in the country in social sciences and humanities, reaching the level of advanced universities in the region, effectively serving the cause of industrialization, modernization of the country and international integration." In the current trend of scientific and technological development, the development of the University's scientific orientations must ensure comprehensive development while also creating preferential conditions for certain disciplines with potential and capabilities, achieving outstanding development and becoming disciplines of international standards. These scientific orientations must reflect a new research perspective and scientific thinking, focusing on interdisciplinary and regional studies projects. The topics and projects should contribute to clarifying the unique characteristics of Vietnamese history, culture, and society while also being considered in a comparative context, consistent with the scientific development trends of the region and internationally. During the period 2010-2020 and subsequent years, the University focused on implementing the following eight fundamental research directions: 1. Researching theoretical issues, solving theoretical problems, theories, viewpoints, and research methods within the scope of social sciences and humanities to contribute to building a solid theoretical foundation and scientific arguments for the development of a development theory. Research works should be both theoretical in nature and may also involve the application of theories and research methods (especially new theories, methods, and viewpoints) to the development of one or a system of specific scientific problems relevant to the Vietnamese context, while simultaneously identifying the characteristics and laws governing the movement and development of Vietnamese society. 2. Focus on developing major interdisciplinary research topics, regional research, and research on major issues requiring the simultaneous participation of multiple scientific disciplines. From this, analyze and establish the scientific arguments and basis for building management mechanisms, development strategies, and forecasting issues in the social sciences and humanities, as well as socio-economic issues of the country in the first half of the 21st century; the ability to respond to changes in nature, the international and regional political environment; trends in the movement and development of society and economic life; and the impacts of natural, social, and political conditions in the world on our country. 3. Develop research topics focusing on clarifying the historical, cultural, social characteristics, natural conditions, and ecological environment to further promote research on regions and inter-regions, development processes, the struggle for national unification and harmony, etc. These research topics should focus on clarifying the formation, development, and decline of ancient cultures, kingdoms, and empires; the process of exploration, territorial expansion, and the establishment of national sovereignty; socio-economic policies towards newly settled lands; and the active and leading role of the Vietnamese people, as well as other ethnic groups within the Vietnamese national community, in the struggle to establish sovereignty, protect economic interests, and preserve national cultural identity. 4. Research and further clarify the issue of cultural exchange and interaction among different cultures, ethnic cultural spaces, and cultural centers throughout history in our country. On the other hand, it is necessary to clearly define the concepts of cultural regions and cultural spaces, the advantages and specific characteristics of each cultural region associated with language, writing, customs, traditions, and cultural heritage; to study migration flows and the lives of ethnic groups in border regions, clarifying the unity and diversity of Vietnamese culture within the regional cultural context; to study the penetration and influence of major religions, the process of localization of religions and ideologies; the formation and role of indigenous beliefs and religions, and the role of religion in modern society. 5. To study the factors affecting social transformation, social classes and strata, interest groups, and value systems; the emergence of new social strata, new social values ​​and concepts, as well as the potential for evolution and multifaceted consequences of these social relationships; the role of the family, children, and women; Issues related to gender, the elderly, cross-border marriage relationships, social security systems; government policies, the role of social organizations; cultural exchange and interaction, cultural differences and conflicts between ethnic groups and communities in the current era of industrialization and international integration. 6. Focus research on urbanization and urban society, including types of cities, issues of natural and social space in urban establishment and planning, urban management experience, and the development of urban studies. Research the development basis and characteristics of each type of city; research population structure, urban anthropology and urbanization issues, economic and cultural activities of urban residents, civic consciousness, community consciousness, and law; The relationship between urban and rural areas will be examined to clarify the role of Vietnamese cities in history, and to clarify the developmental models and typical characteristics of Vietnamese cities in comparison with other types of cities in the East and the world. 7. Research on the potential, cultural environment, marine economy, traditions of marine exploitation and awareness of the sea of ​​our nation in history; the process of struggle and establishment of maritime sovereignty; exclusive economic zones and maritime space, sovereignty disputes at sea, maritime strategies of nations; population issues, migration to islands, cultural exchanges at sea and along the coast; the relationship between the sea and the land; traditions and capabilities in protecting maritime sovereignty and islands, regional security, and protecting marine resources; research on maritime trade, international maritime law, challenges of the marine environment, maritime trade routes and regional and international relations that have taken place in history, especially in the current South China Sea region. 8. Further research and clarification of Vietnam's unique development path; the position and political responses of our nation throughout history; the process of national reunification and the protection of national independence; the major policies and guidelines of the Party and State; the achievements and lessons learned from the reform process; the process of integration with regional and international organizations such as ASEAN, ASEM, APEC, EU, WTO...; the policies of major countries (USA, China, Russia,...) and international organizations towards the region and Vietnam; bilateral and multilateral relations, especially Vietnam's relations with East Asian countries; and the opportunities and challenges facing our country in the current process of industrialization, modernization, and international integration.
