Decision No. 4063/QD-VNU on the promulgation of the program and assignment of tasks for doctoral training in Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Studies.(Vietnamese Language and Vietnam Studies). To date, 10 Vietnamese and foreign candidates have applied for this training program in its first year of enrollment. This is a significant milestone in the more than 60-year journey of training and research of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, contributing to affirming the role and scientific position of the Faculty in training and researching the Vietnamese language and culture both domestically and internationally.
The PhD program in Vietnamese Studies, specializing in Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Studies, trains domestic and international experts with advanced knowledge of the Vietnamese language in relation to theoretical issues connected with the practical aspects of Vietnamese language, culture, country, and people. Graduates in this specialization are capable of conducting independent research and working in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary environments; they also possess the capacity to organize research on issues within the field of Vietnamese language and other topics in Vietnamese studies.
Upon completing their doctoral program in Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Studies, doctoral candidates will become independent researchers in their specialized fields, meeting the societal demand for high-quality human resources to serve Vietnam's socio-economic development strategy and the needs of Vietnamese studies both domestically and internationally.
Over its more than 60-year journey of formation and development, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language has implemented Bachelor's degree programs (with two majors):
Vietnamese Studies; Vietnamese Language and Culture for Foreigners) and Master's degree program (
Vietnamese StudiesWith approximately 1,000 Vietnamese students and 200 foreign students, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language has over 10,000 foreigners who have studied Vietnamese language and culture at the Faculty, as well as with its faculty members at various universities and Vietnamese studies centers around the world. Many former students and trainees have become seasoned diplomats and senior interpreters. Many renowned Vietnamese studies scholars worldwide have studied and trained at the Faculty. Notably, more than 15 foreign students have become Ambassadors or Acting Representatives in Vietnam. With such a rich history and academic background, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language possesses unique advantages in training doctoral programs in Vietnamese language and Vietnamese studies.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, congratulated the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language on being entrusted with this very important and meaningful training task. Sharing the advantages and challenges of opening a highly interdisciplinary field of study with special international cooperation significance, Professor Hoang Anh Tuan emphasized that the launch of the new doctoral program in Vietnamese Language and Vietnamese Studies is a very proud achievement, affirming the efforts of the Faculty's leadership, scientists, lecturers, and staff, as well as functional units within the university.
Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam - Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language, expressed the honor and determination of the entire Department in accepting this important new task, and also expressed gratitude for the wholehearted support of the leadership and functional units of VNU-USSH, of experts in many fields, especially the predecessors who laid the foundation for the program, as well as the efforts of all lecturers and staff of VSL.
The ceremony for the issuance of the Decision on the promulgation and assignment of training tasks was attended by leaders and lecturers of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Faculty of Literature and Television, as well as experts and scientists from universities and research institutes.Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thien Nam (former Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language) expressed his emotion at having been entrusted with the task of training doctoral-level students in Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Research after a long journey and the efforts of many generations. Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thien Nam stated that the concept of Vietnamese Studies was first discussed in the Department in 1973, and since then, the field of Vietnamese Studies has affirmed its solid and practical position both domestically and internationally.
Scientists and experts attending the ceremony also shared their expectations for the development of this new field of study, noting its high potential for international training collaboration and its ability to attract many foreign scholars and students.
Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Hanoi) and the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU Ho Chi Minh City)At the ceremony, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. Accordingly, the two sides will cooperate in implementing various training and scientific research activities, including collaborative training in Master's and Doctoral programs in Vietnamese Studies; credit recognition between the two universities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels for Vietnamese Studies, Vietnamese Language and Culture; student and trainee exchanges (by semester or academic year), and internship exchanges. In addition, the two units will collaborate in developing proposals for national-level science and technology projects; share and participate in state-level science and technology projects; and share experiences on implementing quality accreditation for undergraduate and master's programs in Vietnamese Studies.
Congratulating VSL on its achievements, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Ngoc Thu - Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, shared that the two departments will have close cooperation and linkages, working together to strongly develop training and research in this specialized field of science.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding marks a strategic and effective partnership, affirming the spirit of extensive cooperation between the two leading universities in the social sciences and humanities at opposite ends of the country, under the umbrella of the United States and the United States.
