Research methods
To ensure the reliability and validity of the research results, the Thesis was conducted in two phases. The first phase was a qualitative study to review the literature and test the suitability of the model and scale. The literature was systematically reviewed by meta-analysis based on the literature, integrating the results of previous studies related to the research hypotheses of the Thesis. The second phase was a quantitative study in hypothesis testing.
Main research results
This thesis examines the relationship between destination authenticity (objective authenticity and existential authenticity) and destination attachment with tourist satisfaction in heritage tourism in Vietnam. The thesis focuses on the main topics including (1) analyzing factors affecting tourist satisfaction and (2) analyzing the moderating role of experience quality on the relationship between destination authenticity (objective authenticity and existential authenticity) and destination attachment with tourist satisfaction in heritage tourism. With the scope of research in heritage tourism destinations in Vietnam, the contribution of the thesis is to apply international theories and research to the context of Vietnam tourism.
New Contribution
- In theory:
The case study in Vietnam is a new direction to clarify the difference in satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations compared to other types of tourism services.
Second, the thesis strengthens the understanding of the factors affecting tourist satisfaction at heritage tourism destinations by developing the model of Domínguez-Quintero, AM et al. (2019) to examine the process by which tourists' perceptions of authenticity and destination attachment influence their satisfaction. In addition, the thesis also proposes to examine the moderating role of experience quality on the relationship between authenticity, destination attachment and tourist satisfaction.
Finally, the results of this study have important implications for the tourism industry, promoting greater awareness of the importance of tourist satisfaction management strategies in heritage tourism destination development.
- In practice:
From an empirical perspective, the study has provided a comprehensive picture of heritage tourism and tourist satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations in Vietnam for State tourism management agencies, planners, and heritage tourism destination managers.
Analyzing satisfaction from a needs perspective will be very useful for State management agencies and tourism businesses to understand tourists' perceptions of Vietnam in order to evaluate and apply them to further develop the tourism industry.
Finally, the research results can provide heritage destination management organizations with different strategies for destination development.

In particular, the thesis has studied tourist satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations in Vietnam. The thesis has identified and clarified the relationship between factors affecting tourist satisfaction with these destinations. At the same time, the thesis also focuses on assessing the level of moderating influence of experience quality on this relationship. Along with that, the thesis gives six general recommendations and some specific recommendations for state management agencies on tourists, travel businesses, local communities and tourists. From there, the thesis recognizes five limitations from which to develop future research.
12. Further research directions:
- Expand into the domestic and international overview context for more comprehensive and accurate results.
- Adjust data collection methods to ensure reliability and objectivity.
- Include the survey location in the questionnaire. At the same time, it is necessary to include results on the tourism activity situation at typical heritage tourism destinations.
- The research results are calculated through PLS-SEM technique and path coefficients. However, to provide more solid information about the weights and rankings of these parameters, further testing through multi-criteria decision making methods is needed.
- Other factors can be explored and expanded upon based on the model used in this study such as Perceived Value, Length of Stay, Social Media and Motivation.
