Research objectives
Based on the research motivations mentioned, the main research objective of this thesis is to focus on understanding tourist satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations in Vietnam. The thesis identifies and clarifies the relationship between factors influencing tourist satisfaction with these destinations. Simultaneously, the thesis also focuses on evaluating the moderating influence of experience quality on this relationship. Based on this, it proposes specific management solutions to help destination managers improve tourist satisfaction and attract them to visit heritage tourism sites in Vietnam.
Research methods
To ensure the reliability and validity of the research results, the dissertation was conducted in two stages. The first stage was qualitative research to review the literature and test the suitability of the model and scale. The literature was systematically reviewed through a meta-analysis based on existing literature, integrating the results of previous studies related to the dissertation's research hypotheses. The second stage was quantitative research in hypothesis testing.
Main research results
This dissertation examines the relationship between destination authenticity (objective and existential authenticity) and destination engagement with tourist satisfaction in heritage tourism in Vietnam. The dissertation focuses on key themes including (1) analyzing factors influencing tourist satisfaction and (2) analyzing the moderating role of experience quality in the relationship between destination authenticity (objective and existential authenticity) and destination engagement with tourist satisfaction in heritage tourism. With a research scope focused on heritage tourist destinations in Vietnam, the dissertation contributes to applying international theories and research to the context of Vietnamese tourism.
New Contributions
- In theory:
Case studies in Vietnam offer a new direction for further clarifying the differences in satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations compared to other types of tourism services.
Secondly, the thesis strengthens the understanding of factors influencing tourist satisfaction at heritage tourism destinations by developing the model of Domínguez-Quintero, AM et al. (2019) to examine the process by which tourists' perceptions of destination authenticity and cohesion affect their satisfaction. Additionally, the thesis proposes examining the moderating role of experience quality in the relationship between destination authenticity, cohesion, and tourist satisfaction.
Finally, the findings of this study have significant implications for the tourism industry, promoting greater awareness of the importance of tourist satisfaction management strategies in the development of heritage tourism destinations.
- In practical terms:
From an empirical perspective, the study has provided a comprehensive picture of heritage tourism and tourist satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations in Vietnam for state tourism management agencies, planners, and managers of heritage tourism destinations.
Analyzing satisfaction from the perspective of needs will be very useful for state management agencies and tourism businesses to understand tourists' perceptions of Vietnam in order to evaluate and apply them to further develop the tourism industry.
Ultimately, the research findings can provide heritage destination management organizations with different strategies for destination development.
Conclude
Based on the data analysis results, the thesis has met the initial research objectives. The thesis focused on determining tourist satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations in Vietnam. Specifically, it explored tourist satisfaction with heritage tourism destinations in Vietnam, identifying and clarifying the relationship between factors influencing tourist satisfaction with these destinations. Simultaneously, the thesis also focused on evaluating the moderating influence of experience quality on this relationship. Furthermore, the thesis offered six general recommendations and several specific recommendations for state management agencies, travel businesses, local communities, and tourists. From this, the thesis identified five limitations that could be addressed for future research development.
12. Directions for further research:
- Expand into the broader context, both domestically and internationally, for more comprehensive and accurate results.
- Adjust data collection methods to ensure reliability and objectivity.
- Include the survey location information in the questionnaire. Additionally, include results regarding tourism activities at typical heritage tourism destinations.
- The research results were calculated using PLS-SEM techniques and path coefficients. However, to provide more reliable information on the weights and rankings of these parameters, further testing through multi-criteria decision-making methods is needed.
- Other factors can be explored and expanded upon based on the model used in this study, such as perceived value, length of stay, social media, and travel motivation.
