11. Summary of new results of the thesis:
Based on the collection, synthesis and analysis of sources of documents, the thesis initially identifies the characteristics of the Southwest border area during the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1858). From there, the thesis contributes to clarifying the natural conditions, population and society of this area in the first half of the 19th century. In particular, the natural conditions are reconstructed based on 19th century sources of documents, thereby showing the strong influence of natural conditions on the organization and management issues in the Southwest border area.
The thesis synthesizes and generalizes the system of research documents directly and indirectly related to the issue of organization and management of the southwestern border region in the first half of the 19th century. Thereby, it evaluates the achievements and points out the gaps in research on this area.
The thesis describes and analyzes in detail the organization of the administrative apparatus of the Nguyen Dynasty in the Southwestern border area from Gia Long to Tu Duc. Clarifies the role of the "Dao" units established and existing in this area from the Nguyen Lord period to the reign of King Minh Mang. Statistics and evaluation of the importance of the "Protector of Chenla" official position in the early Nguyen Dynasty. Describes the operation and transformation of the administrative organization of the provinces in the Southwestern border area after Minh Mang's administrative reform.
The thesis clarifies the self-governing institutions (by ethnic group) in the southwestern border area in the first half of the 19th century. Specifically, the institutions are: villages and hamlets of the Vietnamese; srok, phum of the Khmer; bang, pho of the Chinese and Po lay (Plei) of the Cham. From there, it points out the typical organizational characteristics and the influence of these self-governing institutions on the issue of organizing and managing residential communities in the southwestern border area during the Nguyen Dynasty.
The thesis points out the establishment and operation of the management activities of the Nguyen Dynasty in the southwestern border area in the first half of the 19th century. The key activities that have been clarified include: establishing territorial sovereignty, establishing a military guard station system, land management, tax collection, management of trade and commerce activities, etc.

The research topic of the thesis has practical significance, providing necessary knowledge and explanations for the conflicts and problems existing in the Southwestern border area today. From the lessons of the Nguyen Dynasty, it can be seen that the issue of ethnicity and solidarity among ethnic groups always has a strategic position in the activities of protecting national border security. At the same time, using military force will not be able to fundamentally solve the problems of border - territory, security - defense, and social stability.
