1. History of formation
The Faculty of Management Science was established and developed within a leading and prestigious training environment in Vietnam: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (formerly the Hanoi University of Literature, established by Decree No. 45 signed by President Ho Chi Minh on October 10, 1945, and subsequently the Hanoi University of General Studies, established on June 5, 1956).
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities began offering undergraduate programs in Social Management in 1995 and postgraduate programs in Science and Technology Management in 1999, and started developing a training program in intellectual property in 1999. These were the foundations for the development of the Faculty of Management Science today.
In response to the country's demand for managerial human resources, on September 30, 2002, the Director of Hanoi National University signed Decision No. 652/TCCB establishing the Department of Management Science under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, based on the merger of the Department of Social Management (belonging to the Faculty of Philosophy) and the Department of Scientific Theory (belonging to the Faculty of Sociology). Subsequently, on August 11, 2006, the Director of Hanoi National University signed Decision No. 782/QD-TCCB on the establishment of the Faculty of Management Science. The Faculty's main functions and tasks are to provide undergraduate and postgraduate training and conduct scientific research in the field of management science: science and technology management, human resource management, social policy, intellectual property management, public administration, and public policy.
Management science is a field of study with significant theoretical and practical value. The university is tasked with training and conducting in-depth research in management science, and providing managerial human resources at all levels to serve the cause of national construction and development.
Through over 20 years of practical experience in training, the Faculty of Management Science has continuously developed, diversified its academic disciplines and training systems, and improved the quality of training and scientific research to effectively meet the practical needs for management personnel.

Pioneering the integration of training and scientific research in the field of policy and management, aiming for high-quality products that meet the requirements of society and international integration in science and education.

5. Notable achievements

  • By 2012, the Faculty had completed all levels of training: undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees. Thousands of graduates with bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees are currently working in various leadership and management positions from the central to local levels, in both the public and private sectors.
  • It is the first institution in the country to offer master's and doctoral programs in Science and Technology Management.
  • The first training unit for a Master's degree in Science and Technology Management under Project 165 of the Central Organizing Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
  • It is the only institution in the country that trains bachelor's degree graduates specializing in Intellectual Property, Culture, and Management Ethics.
  • Faculty members in the Department studied and graduated from leading international universities such as the UK, France, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the former Soviet Union, Slovakia, etc.
  • The Faculty has successfully led and implemented numerous state-level research projects. Between 2002 and 2024, the Faculty successfully led dozens of state-level projects, protocol projects, VNU projects, NAFOSTED projects, provincial/city-level projects, and institutional-level projects; published textbooks, reference books, monographs; and books commissioned by the National Assembly and People's Councils to serve National Assembly deputies of the 13th and 14th terms, elected representatives, etc.
6. Development orientation
  • Training from undergraduate to postgraduate levels in the fields of management science: management science; science and technology management; human resource management; intellectual property management; public administration; grassroots management and social policy; public policy; management culture and ethics.
  • Focus on and diversify research directions, promote research projects and topics in the field of management and administration, and in particular, promote international publications with high impact factors.
  • Promote the teaching of courses in foreign languages ​​by faculty members within the Department.
  • Attracting international students to enroll in the Faculty's training programs.
  • Developing employment opportunities and fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship and sustainable career development for students.
