As one of the leading scientific institutions researching Vietnamese literature, from folk to modern, Sino-Vietnamese studies, literary theory, Eastern literature (China, India, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia), Western literature (European and American literature), and art studies, the Faculty of Literature focuses on in-depth research into literary theory and theory, national literature, Sino-Vietnamese studies, folklore, foreign literature, and art studies. Simultaneously, the Faculty of Literature is gradually promoting interdisciplinary research encompassing the fields of culture, art, and classical linguistics, in order to progressively integrate with the international academic environment.
To date, the Faculty of Literature has published hundreds of textbooks, monographs, and reference books serving training and research. Over the past 60 years, the Faculty has organized hundreds of scientific conferences at all levels, from departmental and university levels to national and international levels; and conducted hundreds of scientific research projects at the university, ministerial, national university, and state levels. Some notable seminars and conferences include: the International Conference “Approaching the Vietnamese Landscape in a Cross-Cultural Context” (Proceedings published in 2023); the National Conference “Vietnamese Historical Narrative - Interpreting the Past and Constructing Identity”; and the scientific conference “100th Anniversary of the Birth of Professor Lê Đình Kỵ, People's Teacher”. Seminars held included: "Reception of Truyện Kiều in Southern Vietnam," "Trends in the Localization of Theory in Contemporary Chinese Literary Studies," "New Perspectives on Literary Reception Studies from a Post-Marxist Approach," "Improving Quality in the Development and Operation of the Hán Nôm Studies Program," "Associate Professor and Poet Trương Đăng Dung: The Journey from Interpretation to Literary Creation," and an exchange with writer Jean-Pierre Outers, author of "Passer Ausud" (Journey to the South)... Faculty members have led and are currently leading research projects at the Hanoi National University, Ministry, and State levels, and have published numerous articles in specialized scientific journals with domestic and international indices.
