General introduction

1. History and important milestones

• On October 21, 1995, the Faculty of Tourism was established with the first two departments: Department of Tourism Culture and Geography and Department of Tourism Economics and Operations.
• In 2003, with the mission of training and fostering highly qualified human resources in the field of Tourism, the Faculty of Tourism Studies was the first institution in Vietnam to train Masters in Tourism Studies and since 2018, Masters in Tourism.
• In 2013, the Faculty of Tourism established the Department of Event Management.
• In 2016, the Department of Economics and Tourism Operations was renamed the Department of Tourism Management.
• In 2018, the Faculty of Tourism became the first institution in Vietnam to train PhDs in Tourism.

2. Mission

The Faculty of Tourism strives to become a prestigious, branded and influential unit in the field of tourism training and research domestically and internationally.

• Affirming the leading position in Vietnam in the field of scientific research in Tourism
• Training and fostering high quality and highly qualified human resources in the tourism industry.

3. Outstanding achievements

• Training nearly 5,000 bachelors, about 600 masters, many of whom hold leadership positions in enterprises, state management agencies, tourism training institutions, research institutes...

• 500 scientific works were published in scientific journals and conference proceedings at home and abroad. From mainly publishing works domestically, up to now, 2/3 of the Faculty's staff have had scientific articles published in scientific journals and international conference proceedings. The Faculty's staff have also published 50 textbooks, lectures and monographs, chaired dozens of scientific topics at all levels (including 15 topics at the ministerial, industry and Hanoi National University levels, 30 topics at the school level, and 5 topics at the city level).

• Has relationships and exchange cooperation with more than 30 universities and international organizations.
• The Faculty has received certificates of merit from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Hanoi National University, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Hanoi Department of Tourism for its outstanding achievements in training, scientific research, cooperation and development activities, etc.

4. Development orientation

Continuously expanding cooperation and training links, scientific research with domestic and international partners to meet diverse development trends in training and research of the tourism industry in Vietnam and the world.
