Anthropology in Vietnam has its foundation in Ethnology, which was established in the 1930s with the academic influence of France. During the 1960s-1980s, many young Vietnamese intellectuals graduated with PhDs in Ethnology in the Soviet Union, Eastern European socialist countries and in Vietnam, creating a generation of Ethnology experts who conducted extensive research on cultural, social, economic and ethnic relations issues in Vietnam. These research results contributed positively to identifying the composition of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam, helping the Party and State build and perfect policies on ethnicity, culture and Vietnamese people.
In the context of Doi Moi since 1986, many young Vietnamese intellectuals have been trained in Anthropology at advanced universities in Europe, America, and Australia. Since the early 2000s, Ethnology in Vietnam has been transformed and developed into the field of Anthropology following the model in North American, Australian, Western European countries... Anthropology in Vietnam not only has the ability to integrate internationally but also continues to train Anthropologists with professional knowledge and skills, understanding the realities of the country, society, culture and people of Vietnam, making practical contributions to the work of planning, implementing and evaluating policies of the State and organizations at home and abroad.
The current faculty of the Faculty of Anthropology and Religious Studies are teachers with extensive experience in research and teaching at universities in Vietnam and abroad. When we understand them, we can find appropriate methods to create impulses, which will be a very attractive issue and bring good effects to society.”
With the teaching motto of putting students at the center, the Faculty always supports students to develop their thinking and practice according to their abilities and passions. In a dynamic, open and creative academic environment, students of the Faculty of Anthropology and Religion learn comprehensively: from basic knowledge in the classroom to experiences, research practice in the field, participation in extracurricular activities at museums, NGOs, exchanges with international students and scientists.

Internship - practice is an important activity for students majoring in Anthropology - students go to the community to learn about their cultural life to have cultural experiences and practice research skills. The purpose of the internship is to: (i) create conditions for students to apply knowledge of ethnographic fieldwork to field work and use qualitative and quantitative research methods to collect and process information on research subjects (specific residential communities) in the field; (ii) thereby better understand the theoretical knowledge learned, and at the same time see the difficulties and challenges in researching specific topics in the research area, (iii) thereby requiring students to be aware of the requirement to flexibly and creatively master the basic issues of the research problem from both theoretical and methodological perspectives.
