International relations in the Asia-Pacific region

To understand the world, go to the Asia-Pacific region.” That is the message that the textbook “International Relations in the Asia-Pacific Region” by Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh, recently published by Hanoi National University Publishing House, aims to convey to its readers.

International relations in the Asia-Pacific region

Based on the application of international relations theories to the analysis of the actual situation, the main purpose of this textbook is to help readers systematically, fundamentally, and comprehensively understand the nature of international relations in the Asia-Pacific region, one of the most dynamic regions in the world today.

This textbook primarily serves the learning needs of undergraduate students, graduate students, and doctoral candidates, as well as the teaching and research activities of faculty members of the Department of International Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. In addition, the textbook is also a useful reference material for students in International Relations, History, Political Science, Oriental Studies, and anyone interested in international politics.

The curriculum is structured into 8 chapters:

Chapter 1: This chapter focuses on introducing methodological and conceptual issues such as the concept of region, how to define a region, and some basic theories applicable to the study of the Asia-Pacific region.

Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5: Adopting a nation-centric approach, these chapters focus on analyzing the Asia-Pacific policies of four major powers: the United States, China, Japan, and the Russian Federation.

Chapters 6 and 7, adopting a multilateral and regional studies approach, focus on analyzing the challenges, opportunities, and prospects of regional security in the Asia-Pacific.

Chapter 8: Analyzing Vietnam's Asia-Pacific policy as a country in the region with an increasingly important position and role.

The textbook "International Relations in the Asia-Pacific Region" is the result of more than 10 years of teaching and research by Associate Professor Dr. Pham Quang Minh, with the help and contributions of generations of lecturers and students of the Faculty of International Studies since its establishment in 1995. On the occasion of the Faculty's 20th anniversary, the author would like to dedicate this work to the generations of teachers and students of the Faculty of International Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
