Also in attendance were representatives from the faculties of Tourism Studies, International Studies, Oriental Studies, Linguistics, Sociology, Vietnamese Studies, and Vietnamese Language of VNU-USSH.
Attending the direct exchange with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities were Mr. Chu Da-ming (Head of Education Department, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam) and representatives from 11 universities from Taiwan (China): Yu Da University of Science and Technology; Jingyi University; Nanhua University; Tamkang University; National Taichung University of Education; ASIA University; Hung Kwok-kuo University of Science and Technology; Nankai University of Science and Technology; National Tung Hwa University; Chien Kwok University of Technology; and Te Ming University of Finance and Engineering.
In his opening remarks, Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong extended a warm welcome to representatives from various universities who visited the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and attended the Taiwan Higher Education Exhibition. He noted that this was a favorable opportunity to expand, strengthen, and further solidify cooperative relations between VNU-USSH and universities in Taiwan.

Vice Rector Dao Thanh Truong shared: The University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a key university of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, one of the leading universities in Vietnam in training in social sciences and humanities, and the cradle of training many famous scientists, cultural figures, and politicians in Vietnam. Currently, in addition to faculties with a long history and tradition, training in basic sciences that have made the University of Social Sciences and Humanities famous: Linguistics, History, Literature, Philosophy, etc., we are developing many faculties that train applied subjects, linked to the needs of society such as Tourism and Travel Service Management, Oriental Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, Sociology, Social Work, Vietnamese Studies…
Associate Professor Pham Hong Long (Head of the Faculty of Tourism Studies) shared: Currently, the Faculty of Tourism at VNU-USSH is a leading institution in Vietnam providing training in the field of tourism at all three levels: bachelor's, master's, and doctoral. The field of tourism studies is currently receiving significant attention and promotion from Taiwanese universities. Therefore, we hope to cooperate in student and faculty exchange between the Faculty of Tourism and Taiwanese universities; co-organize major conferences on tourism; and organize short-term programs (summer school)...
On behalf of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong (Deputy Head of Faculty) expressed gratitude to the universities in Taiwan for providing opportunities for many faculty members to receive advanced training in Taiwan. Currently, the Faculty has credit exchange programs at the undergraduate level with universities in South Korea, Japan, etc., therefore, we hope to have the opportunity to cooperate with some Taiwanese universities and would like to invite Taiwanese lecturers and experts to teach our students and trainees.
Dr. Le Thi Thanh Tam (Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language) shared the strengths and outstanding achievements of the Department in training Vietnamese language for foreigners and teaching Vietnamese to overseas Vietnamese in various countries around the world. The Head of the Department of Vietnamese Studies and Vietnamese Language also suggested that a Vietnamese language proficiency certificate exam could be organized, possibly even in Taiwan.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thi Thai Lan (Deputy Head of the Sociology Department) stated: "Many lecturers in the department participate in research projects on Taiwan. However, currently there is not much in-depth research on Taiwan, so in the future we would very much like to cooperate and learn from the experience of experts, researchers, and lecturers from Taiwan in the fields of social work and sociology."
Representing the Faculty of Linguistics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Hong Hanh (Deputy Head of Faculty) expressed her desire to expand student and faculty exchange activities with many other universities in Taiwan, in addition to those with which the Faculty has had very good cooperative relationships in the past.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Chu Da-Minh expressed his sincere gratitude to the University's leadership and functional departments for their professional and effective support and coordination in successfully organizing the 2023 Higher Education Exhibition. He noted that the University of Social Sciences and Humanities is a leading and prestigious university in Vietnam, and therefore chose it as the organizer for this important event. Just this morning, a large number of Vietnamese students and pupils visited and learned about Taiwanese universities. He highly appreciated the University's scientific and professional organization and communication efforts.
Mr. Chu Da-ming expressed his high appreciation for the thorough and professional preparation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for the Taiwan Education Exhibition and the warm welcome extended by the University to the participating universities.
On the occasion of our visit to Vietnam and participation in the exhibition, we are honored to have the opportunity to meet and interact directly with representatives from the university's faculties to discuss key and effective cooperation programs.
Mr. Chu Da Minh emphasized:
With the same training programs offered by the university, universities in Taiwan also offer similar or closely related fields, so the opportunities for cooperation are very promising and feasible. In 2023, Taiwan awarded scholarships to 5 students to study in Vietnam, and 4 of them studied at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, mainly specializing in Vietnamese language and Southeast Asian culture. This shows the high prestige and brand of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Taiwan..
Representatives from Hung Kwok University of Science and Technology, including Duc Lam, shared: The university has partnered with a leading travel agency in Taiwan to offer short-term training courses in hotel management and tourism management skills. After completing the courses, students can either find employment or pursue longer courses.
Nanhua University stated that, as a university specializing in social sciences and humanities, it has many opportunities for cooperation with VNU-USSH. For partner universities, Nanhua University annually offers 5 tuition-free scholarships for 5 students to study for one semester at Nanhua.
Representatives from Dong Hua University expressed their desire to welcome more students and lecturers from VNU-USSH to pursue postgraduate studies in several fields: public administration, tourism studies, linguistics, calligraphy, and sociology. Dong Hua University also offers numerous scholarships for international students annually. Furthermore, we hope that both sides will collaborate to organize seminars, either online or in person, in Vietnam or Taiwan.
On behalf of the participating universities, Mr. Chu Da-ming reiterated: based on the MOU signed between Taiwanese universities and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, we hope that the training institutions will propose specific activities to realize the signed contents. “Personally, I strongly support connecting and expanding cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Taiwanese universities. The Taiwan Higher Education Exhibition at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2023 was very successful, and I believe it will open up even more opportunities for cooperation,” Mr. Chu Da-ming emphasized.
Every year, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam offers numerous scholarships for short-term Chinese language courses or other academic programs for Vietnamese students. Students from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, with their excellent academic results, often easily win these scholarships.
Concluding the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thanh Truong once again expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr. Chu Da Minh and representatives from Taiwanese universities for their visit and the very cordial exchange today. He also proposed many interesting cooperation ideas: promoting 1+3 and 2+2 joint training programs; exchanging lecturers and students; and coordinating scientific research and international publications.
The leadership of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, is committed to supporting and facilitating all administrative procedures for the approval of joint training and cooperation programs between VNU-USSH and Taiwanese partners.

Also within the framework of the 2023 Taiwan Higher Education Exhibition, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held a meeting with representatives from National Taiwan Normal University. The two sides exchanged views and agreed to renew their cooperation agreement as soon as possible.
