The meeting took place on the second floor of building H, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and revolved around the theme "Chinese-Vietnamese Images in the Media and Youth Responsibilities".
The delegation from the Institute of Journalism and Communication consisted of 5 faculty members and 26 students, led by Ms. Li Weihong, Secretary of the Institute's Party Committee.
Overview of the meeting. The Institute of Broadcasting and Communication and the Institute of Journalism and Communication, Guangxi University, have a long history of cooperation. The two sides regularly hold events and seminars to exchange expertise.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Phan Van Kien, Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, said that the geographical distance between Hanoi and the Guangxi border region is not great, but the potential for cooperation in journalism, communication, and social sciences between the two sides "is still very large and needs to be further explored in the future."
"Before this visit to Vietnam, Professor Vuong Si Dung, Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication, and I had met many times and regularly contacted each other to cooperate in teaching and research. Many times, lecturers and students from both sides have had the opportunity to participate in each other's academic activities. Therefore, it can be said that there is a very good foundation of friendly relations between the two Institutes," Dr. Kien shared.

The delegation expressed its desire to have more leading Vietnamese universities collaborate on research regarding the ASEAN situation, and also introduced a series of five upcoming books on ASEAN resulting from national-level research projects on the Chinese side.

The research continues the 2+2 training model.
During the meeting, the Chinese side proposed reconnecting and continuing the joint undergraduate journalism program under the "2+2" model – two years of study in China, two years of study at the partner university – between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Guangxi University.
The program was implemented effectively from around 2005, but had to be temporarily suspended due to several objective reasons. Given the practical needs and development potential of the media industry, both sides are discussing removing obstacles to relaunch the program on a more systematic scale.
According to the proposal presented by the Chinese delegation, each year the two sides plan to recruit approximately 25 Chinese students and 25 Vietnamese students for the Journalism major, studying together in one class. Students will study the first two years in their home country and then transfer to the partner university in China for the following two years.
During their two years at Guangxi University, students are equipped with a system of 56 credits, including core journalism courses such as interview writing research, journalistic editing, journalistic theory, photojournalism, convergent media, digital media technology, advanced journalism skills, periodical business management, and international communication; elective courses such as applied social networks, media psychology, and decoding media hotspots; along with practical modules, cognitive internships, social surveys, and specialized and university-wide exams on artificial intelligence (AI).
The two universities will maintain a mechanism for sending faculty members to inspect and monitor the quality of teaching at their partner institutions, with each institution doing so for at least one month each academic year.
Leaders and representatives from both units agreed to finalize the legal framework and refine the cooperation plan so that the program can be restarted as soon as permission is granted by the state management agency, with the aim of expanding the number of classes afterward.
Aiming for international publication, the Global South network
Associate Professor Bui Chi Trung, Deputy Director of the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training, outlined the direction for linking scientific research cooperation with the general development trend of the global academic movement in the South (Global South). According to him, scientists, lecturers, and researchers from both countries need to move beyond the stage of independent publications and towards forming joint research groups, building co-authored works in terms of both data and content.
Associate Professor Bui Chi Trung, Deputy Director of the Institute of Broadcasting and Information Technology, delivered a speech at the meeting.
"The goal is to publish high-quality works in prestigious international journals with high-level categories in Europe and the US, as well as in major international publishers," said Associate Professor Bui Chi Trung. He cited a book published last year by Nomos Publishing House (Germany), which included independent research from lecturers in Guangxi, as a foundation for more in-depth collaborative research.
Associate Professor Bui Chi Trung also suggested leveraging the multidisciplinary strengths of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, particularly its Anthropology department, to promote in-depth research on cross-border trade communication between Vietnam and China.
The two sides plan to organize annual academic forums, including a series of events called the "Autumn Forum" in October 2026, in collaboration with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, on the topics of AI, the digital divide, and AI capabilities, along with special issues in scientific journals to publish high-quality research papers.
Academic exchange and opportunities for students
In the academic exchange session themed "Sino-Vietnamese Images in the Media and Youth Responsibilities," lecturers and students from both countries presented papers, analyzing diverse perspectives on media, youth awareness, and the responsibilities of students in fostering friendly exchanges between the two countries.

The Chinese delegation representative expressed a desire to promote short-term study abroad programs of 3 months or more for students, leveraging Guangxi University's unique ASEAN-oriented development strengths to prepare infrastructure, accommodation, and dormitories to support Vietnamese students studying there, thereby further promoting youth exchanges between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with the exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photo. Dr. Phan Van Kien and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Chi Trung, along with representatives from the Chinese delegation, agreed on the next steps for cooperation in training, scientific research, and youth exchange between the Institute of Journalism and Communication Training and its Chinese educational partners.
