The visit took place at a time when the University is looking forward to celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Faculty of Arts and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This is an important occasion for the University to expand strategic cooperation orientations, strengthen academic connections and promote new cooperation initiatives with universities in the region.
At the meeting, Vice President Dang Hong Son gave an overview of the strengths and achievements in training and research in the field of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University, emphasizing the potential for cooperation between the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Guangxi Normal University, a partner with long-standing and close relations in terms of geography, culture and academics.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Guangxi Normal University signed a cooperation agreement in 1999. Up to now, the two units have carried out many effective activities: exchanging students and lecturers, coordinating research, organizing international seminars and publications on history, culture, archaeology, and teaching Vietnamese. On that basis, Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Hong Son expressed his wish that the two units would strengthen and expand interdisciplinary research cooperation, exchange experts, and carry out joint activities in accordance with the spirit of friendly cooperation set forth by the two countries' senior leaders.
On behalf of Guangxi Normal University, Prof. Tran Quoc Bao sent his congratulations to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the tradition of the Faculty of Letters and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University. He gave an overview of Guangxi Normal University as one of the educational institutions with a long history and academic prestige in China. Currently, the University has 22 academies, with a training system from bachelor to doctorate. The fields of Literature, History and Marxism-Leninism are the traditional strengths of the University, attracting a large number of Vietnamese postgraduates and international students to study every year.
He added that Guangxi Normal University is preparing to open a major in Vietnamese Language and has asked the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to support sending lecturers to teach. The school also plans to implement a one-year student exchange program to study in Vietnam and a one-year internship program for graduate students, as well as participate in short-term seminars on ASEAN.
Representatives of the two universities’ professional units also outlined specific cooperation directions. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh – Head of the Faculty of Linguistics, Vietnamese Language and Vietnam Studies emphasized some cooperation contents: joint training, sending experts to attend international conferences, joint research and publication.
Ms. Do Nguyen Duong, representative of the International Cooperation Department, proposed the initiative to establish an ASEAN-China University Alliance to connect educational institutions in the region, promote extensive cooperation in the fields of scientific research, academic publishing and information resource sharing. This network not only expands bilateral cooperation opportunities, but also contributes to creating a common academic space where universities in ASEAN and China can exchange, discuss and jointly implement influential research programs.
At the end of the meeting, the leaders of the two schools agreed on a number of cooperation contents that need to be implemented immediately in 2026 and the following years. The two sides agreed to maintain close and regular contact through professional contacts, and at the same time, promptly concretize the proposals with practical cooperation programs, bringing long-term value to the academic communities of both sides.
