After the impressive finale on November 6, K52 Psychology student Tran Thi Gam officially became the representative of the beauty of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. We had a chat with the new Miss to hear her share information about the contest, express her own views on work, study, dreams in life as well as the responsibility of the young generation towards society.

- After the final night, most opinions said that this title was well-deserved for the efforts you made in the rounds. How do you personally evaluate your victory?

Tran Thi Gam: I am very happy that my efforts over a long period of time have been recognized. But after winning, I think I still have to try harder to improve myself.

-This year's contestants are considered to be quite even and impressive to the audience. Do you personally have a special impression of a contestant's face or a particular performance?

Tran Thi Gam:Actually, I think the students are quite even and each has their own strengths. In terms of appearance, I like Ma Thi Huyen, candidate number 12 from the Faculty of Management Science. Huyen has a very lovely face. In terms of talent, I was impressed with the martial arts performance of Trinh Thi Mai, candidate number 16. This is a unique and individual performance, showing a strong hidden beauty of the female student besides the usual gentle appearance.

-This year's contest highlights the beauty of intelligence, talent, and ideas that contribute to the community of female students. Can you share about the performances you brought to the contest to help demonstrate the above criteria?

Tran Thi Gam:I think the main slogan of this year's contest "Beauty for the community" is very good because it affirms the truth that beauty is only valuable and honored when it contributes to building and promoting the common interests of the community. In other words, the winner of the contest must not only have a beautiful appearance but also have a passionate heart, knowing how to act for the common values and interests of the community and society.

In the idea for the community competition, I proposed the idea of establishing a female student club of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This idea is not too difficult to implement, and it brings practical benefits to the female students of the school, who make up the majority of the current students. The club will be a place for girls to exchange information, share and improve their self-awareness in all aspects, a place where they are given the opportunity to express their abilities and contribute to common activities.

In the talent show, I chose to perform a comedy. The Village Chief and Mother Dop in Modern TimesThere are two “classic” characters, that is, everyone knows them, on stage but they breathe into it very modern content and ideas. Because this is a comedy, I think it will bring joy and comfort to the audience. The person who also acts with me is a student but she acts very well. Thanks to the juggling of my co-star, I performed better than I could have.

As for drama, I have loved and been involved with it since my high school years. When I went to university, I had time to join the drama club of the University Student Union. Therefore, I chose that as my talent performance. I was also very happy because it was one of the 5 talent performances performed in the final night.

In the evening gown and ao dai competitions, I actually don’t have many options to choose from. In general, I try to choose outfits that are beautiful and suitable for the competition criteria as well as the style of female students in a university.

- Your behavioral question is about a rather sensitive issue: cohabitation among students and you have to give your opinion on this issue. Are you satisfied with your behavioral performance? Can you once again state your opinion on this issue?

Tran Thi Gam:Honestly, I was a bit surprised and confused when I received this question. But this is a good question and a controversial social issue today. Cohabitation is a social phenomenon imported from the West, an inevitable consequence of the development of modern society. I think it has both positive and negative aspects. It has a positive aspect in helping young people learn about each other before officially entering family life. But the negative impact of the above phenomenon is extremely large for both individuals and society. This is a lifestyle originating from the West and is very contradictory to traditional Asian culture, so it has not received the approval of society. For individuals, if they do not have knowledge and courage, cohabitation leads to both mental and physical consequences. For example, the phenomenon of getting pregnant at a young age, girls have to give up their dreams of studying and working to enter family life without adequate preparation for the future; psychological crisis phenomena such as fear of love, laziness in love, negative thoughts about love when the relationship breaks down after living together... In particular, a common phenomenon among young people is that living together easily makes individuals lose the necessary romance in love, while it is easy to confuse love with mere sex.

In general, young people should have the necessary social and psychological knowledge to understand this phenomenon and make wise decisions for their actions. It is important that they have a positive lifestyle and know how to look towards the future.

- In your opinion, what beauty of female students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will the Miss University of Social Sciences and Humanities represent, and how will it be different from the Miss University of other universities?

Tran Thi Gam:Perhaps when mentioning female students of this or that school, more or less everyone has their own "position" about the unique features of female students of each school and the Miss is clearly the representative of that unique beauty. The Miss Female Student of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities represents the unique beauty of female students of the Humanities: feminine, graceful, sophisticated but also very intelligent and talented. And of course, that person must have a humane lifestyle, know how to love everyone around, live for everyone. The harmony between traditional and modern beauty is the outstanding feature of female students of the Humanities.

- After being crowned, what will you do to fulfill your responsibilities as a beauty queen? How will you aim to express your image?

Tran Thi Gam:I will try to fulfill my duties as a student studying in a university environment and participate in activities that contribute to the general movement of the Youth Union, Student Association and the School. I want to be a female student who studies well, is friendly with everyone and is active in common activities. As Miss, I will encourage my friends to enthusiastically participate in those common activities.

- Please share with readers your passion for the field you are pursuing, Psychology?

Tran Thi Gam:Psychology is a very new field of study but is increasingly asserting its important role in modern society. When material needs are increasingly met, people have to face many new problems, especially psychological and mental health problems. People increasingly realize the important influence of psychology on the quality of life of individuals and communities. This is a field of study that directly helps people's personal lives.

Personally, from the beginning when approaching this field of study, I only wanted to understand human psychology so that I could behave properly in life. Obviously, understanding the thoughts and feelings of the people around us will help us work more smoothly and effectively.

- What changes has this major brought you in your thinking and in your daily life?

Tran Thi Gam:In fact, after studying this major in depth, there have been many changes in my thinking and personality. I feel that I have learned to think more about others, to care and listen to others more. I myself also perceive life in a more mature and open way as well as know how to balance myself in life's difficulties. I really like two sayings: "If you don't want people to treat you the way you want, don't treat others the same way" and "Listening is a skill for success".

- What do you think about the learning responsibility of students today? What are your learning orientations and methods?

Tran Thi Gam:I think the responsibility to study well is the most important task of students at all times. But what is more important is studying to be able to contribute to life? In addition to studying to have a good job position, building a full life for themselves, young people need to have the ambition to contribute their talents and creativity to the development of the industry and job they pursue, for the benefit and common development of society.

I don't have any advanced learning methods, I just try to study a lot on my own and read a lot of books to broaden my knowledge.

- In your opinion, what knowledge and skills should university students accumulate during their studies?

Tran Thi Gam:Of course, students must have good professional knowledge, but besides that, soft skills are also extremely important factors for success in work. These are communication skills, persuasion skills, listening skills, planning skills, teamwork skills... which you may not have the opportunity to practice while studying. So, one way or another, students have to equip themselves to avoid shocks when facing the real working environment which is completely different from the university environment.

- What kind of job do you want in the future?

Tran Thi Gam:My wish is very simple, just a job suitable for my major, to affirm myself and help people. I always want to apply the psychological knowledge I have learned to serve a specific job, for example, I really like to study, research and apply knowledge of business psychology, social psychology in business activities, communication with customers or advertising communication activities of a company...

- One last question, what can you discuss about a rather "hot" social issue today, which is the trend of young people wanting to express their personality and ego, but in many shocking forms?

Tran Thi Gam:It is true that such phenomena exist in society today. The media often talks about cases of people cutting their own limbs just because they like it, posting explicit photos on blogs, making shocking statements about love, sex... And people also argue a lot about whether young people should or should not have such actions?

It must be admitted that as modern society develops, individuals, especially young people, increasingly want to express their ego, even want to break out of the familiar prejudices of society. Wanting to assert oneself is a legitimate need, however, how to assert and on the basis of how people perceive it? There must be certain rules in one's lifestyle, that is, no matter what one does, one must not cause negative effects on others. Everyone has the right to choose how to live, but make the wisest choices.
