Following the impressive final night on November 6th, Tran Thi Gam, a K52 Psychology student, officially became the representative of the beauty of female students at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. We had a conversation with the new Miss to hear her share information about the competition, her personal views on work, studies, her dreams in life, and the responsibilities of the younger generation towards society.

- After the final night, most opinions suggested that this title was well-deserved given your efforts throughout the competition rounds. How do you personally assess your victory?

Tran Thi GamI'm very happy that my long-term efforts have been recognized. But now that I've won, I think I still need to work even harder to improve myself.

ButThis year's contestants are considered to be quite evenly matched and have impressed the audience. Do you personally have a particular contestant's face or a special performance that particularly impressed you?

Tran Thi Gam:Honestly, I find the contestants quite evenly matched, each with their own strengths. In terms of appearance, I like Ma Thi Huyen, contestant number 12 from the Faculty of Management Science. Huyen has a very charming face. Regarding talent, I was impressed by the martial arts performance of Trinh Thi Mai, contestant number 16. This was a unique and individualistic performance, showcasing a hidden strength and beauty in the female students alongside their usual gentle appearance.

ButThis year's competition emphasizes the beauty of intellect, talent, and ideas that contribute to the community from female students. Could you share about the performances you're bringing to the competition to help showcase these criteria?

Tran Thi Gam:I think the main slogan of this year's competition, "Beauty for the Community," is excellent because it affirms the truth that beauty is only valuable and celebrated when it contributes to building and promoting the common good of the community. In other words, the winner of the competition must not only possess physical beauty but also have a passionate heart and know how to act for the common values and rights of the community and society.

In the community service ideas competition, I proposed the idea of establishing a women's club at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. This idea is not too difficult to implement and would bring practical benefits to the female students of the university, who make up the majority of the student body. The club would be a place where girls could exchange information, share experiences, and improve their self-awareness in all aspects. It would also provide opportunities for them to showcase their abilities and contribute to common activities.

For the talent competition, I chose to perform a comedy skit.Village chief and Mother Đốp in modern timesThere are two "classic" characters, meaning everyone knows them, on stage, but they've infused the play with very modern content and ideas. Because it's a comedy, I think it will bring joy and relaxation to the audience. My co-star is a student, but she's a very talented actress. Thanks to the chemistry between us, I performed even better than I could have.

Regarding acting, I've had a passion for it since high school. When I went to university, I joined the drama club of the university's student association. Therefore, I chose it as my talent performance for the competition. I'm also very happy that it was one of the five talent performances selected for the final round.

Regarding the evening gown and traditional Vietnamese dress segments, I didn't have many options to choose from. Generally, I tried to select outfits that were beautiful and suitable for the competition's criteria, as well as reflecting the style of female students at a university.

- Your interview question was about a rather sensitive issue: cohabitation among students, and you had to give your opinion on this matter. Are you satisfied with your performance? Could you reiterate your viewpoint on this issue?

Tran Thi Gam:To be honest, I was a little surprised and flustered by this question. But it's a good question and a social issue that's causing much debate today. Living together before marriage is a social phenomenon imported from the West, an inevitable consequence of the development of modern society. I think it has both positive and negative aspects. It has a positive side in that it helps young people get to know each other before officially entering married life. However, the negative impact of this phenomenon is enormous, both for individuals and society. This lifestyle originates from the West and is very contradictory to traditional East Asian culture, therefore it hasn't received widespread social acceptance. For individuals, without knowledge and courage, living together before marriage can lead to negative consequences, both mentally and physically. For example, the phenomenon of young girls getting pregnant at a young age, forcing them to abandon their dreams of education and careers to enter married life without adequate preparation for the future; Psychological crises such as fear of love, reluctance to love, and negative thoughts about love after experiencing heartbreak following cohabitation are common. In particular, a common phenomenon among young people is that cohabitation can easily lead to a loss of romance in a relationship, while simultaneously confusing love with mere sex.

In general, young people should have sufficient social and psychological knowledge to understand this phenomenon and make informed decisions about their actions. Importantly, they must lead positive lives and look towards the future.

- In your opinion, what aspects of beauty will the Miss University of Social Sciences and Humanities represent for female students, and how will she differ from the Miss University of Social Sciences and Humanities winners?

Tran Thi Gam:Perhaps when mentioning female students from this or that school, people have their own "identification" of the distinctive characteristics of female students from each school, and the beauty queen is clearly the representative of that particular beauty. The Miss University of Social Sciences and Humanities represents the characteristic beauty of female students in the humanities: feminine, graceful, refined, but also very intelligent and capable. And of course, she must be someone with a humane lifestyle, who knows how to love those around her, and lives for others. The harmonious blend of traditional and modern beauty is the outstanding characteristic of female students in the humanities.

- After being crowned, what will you do to fulfill your responsibilities as a beauty queen? How will you aim to present yourself?

Tran Thi Gam:I will strive to fulfill my duties as a university student and participate in activities that contribute to the general movements of the Youth Union, Student Association, and the University. I want to be a good student, friendly to everyone, and active in group activities. As the beauty queen, I will encourage my friends to enthusiastically participate in these group activities.

- Could you share with our readers your passion for your chosen field of study, Psychology?

Tran Thi Gam:Psychology is a relatively new field of study, but it is increasingly asserting its important role in modern society. As material needs are increasingly met, people face many new problems, especially those related to psychology and mental health. The significant influence of psychology on the quality of life of individuals and communities is becoming more and more apparent. This is a field of study that directly benefits people's lives.

For me personally, from the very beginning when I approached this field of study, my only desire was to gain an understanding of human psychology so that I could behave appropriately in life. Clearly, understanding the thoughts and feelings of those around us will help us work more smoothly and effectively.

- How has this field of study changed your thinking and your daily life?

Tran Thi Gam:Honestly, after studying this field in depth, there have been many changes in my thinking and personality. I feel I've become more considerate of others, more caring, and a better listener. I also perceive life in a more mature and open-minded way, and I've learned to balance myself through life's difficulties. I really appreciate two quotes: "Don't treat others the way you would rather be treated yourself" and "Listening is a skill of success."

- What are your thoughts on the academic responsibilities of students today? What are your study strategies and methods?

Tran Thi Gam:I believe that the responsibility of studying well is the most important task for students of all times. But more importantly, what can we contribute to life through our studies? Besides studying to secure a good job and build a fulfilling life for themselves, young people need to have the ambition to contribute their talents and creativity to the development of their chosen profession or career, for the benefit and overall progress of society.

I don't have any extraordinary study methods; I just try to learn as much as possible on my own and read many books to broaden my knowledge.

- In your opinion, what knowledge and skills should students acquire during their university studies?

Tran Thi Gam:Of course, students need strong specialized knowledge, but soft skills are also extremely important for success in the workplace. These include communication skills, persuasion skills, listening skills, planning skills, teamwork skills, etc., which you may not have the opportunity to practice during your studies. Therefore, students must equip themselves with these skills in one way or another to avoid shock when facing a real-world work environment that is completely different from the university environment.

- What kind of job do you aspire to have in the future?

Tran Thi Gam:My aspirations are simple: I just want a job that suits my major, allows me to prove myself, and helps others. I've always wanted to apply my psychological knowledge to a specific job. For example, I currently enjoy studying, researching, and applying knowledge of business psychology and social psychology in business activities, customer communication, or advertising and marketing activities for a company…

- One final question: what can you discuss about a rather "hot" social issue today: the trend among young people to express their individuality and self-identity, but in many shocking ways?

Tran Thi Gam:It's true that such phenomena exist in society today. The media reports extensively on cases of self-harm, such as people cutting their wrists and legs for pleasure, posting revealing photos on blogs, and making shocking statements about love and sex. There's also much debate about whether young people should or shouldn't engage in such behaviors.

It must be acknowledged that as modern society develops, individuals, especially young people, increasingly want to express their individuality, even wanting to break free from familiar societal prejudices. The desire to assert oneself is a legitimate need; however, how should one assert oneself, and on what basis should that be perceived by others? Certain rules should be established in one's lifestyle, ensuring that whatever one does, it does not negatively impact others. Everyone has the right to choose their way of life, but they should make the wisest choices possible.
