In the process of innovation and international integration, on the basis of the Ethnology major with a long tradition of research, training and policy application, an Anthropology science in Vietnam has been formed and is constantly developing, clearly showing that it is an Anthropology science with Vietnamese identity but also sharing many similarities with Anthropology traditions in many countries around the world.
Placing Anthropology in Vietnam in the context of Vietnamese history since the early 20th century and in its interaction with Anthropological traditions on a global scale, the bookAnthropology in Vietnam: some historical, research and training issuesis a collection of articles by more than 30 Vietnamese, Japanese, Canadian, and French anthropologists clarifying three key contents of the science of anthropology in Vietnam.
Firstly, this book takes readers back to the history of more than 100 traditions of the science of human research, to see the great and unique contributions of anthropologists such as Nguyen Van Huyen, Nguyen Duc Tu Chi and the French School of the Far East... to the formation and development of the discipline of Ethnology according to the French Ethnological tradition and the Soviet Ethnological tradition, as well as the transition from Ethnology to Anthropology in Vietnam during the decades of renovation and international integration.
Second, another important content clarified by the book is the current status, problems and research prospects of the specialized fields of Anthropology, such as Gender Anthropology, Writing Anthropology, Ecological Anthropology, Ethnic Anthropology, and research directions on livelihoods, cultural heritage, etc. in Vietnam.
Third, the book devotes an important part to analyzing the current situation of Anthropology training and teaching, identifying difficulties and challenges, discussing solutions to promote and improve the quality of Anthropology training in the direction of better meeting social needs and international integration.
Attending the conference on this book, readers will have the opportunity to listen and discuss with Vietnamese and international anthropologists not only about the contents of the book but also about the science of anthropology in Vietnam from tradition to modernity and from the perspective of an insider as well as through the eyes of an outsider.
