University admissions for the year 2017

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities announces the admission information for regular undergraduate programs in 2017.

Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU-Hanoi) has officially announced its 2017 undergraduate admissions information for its member units, including the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. In addition to the enrollment quotas for each major, the specific combinations of subjects/exams for the national high school graduation exam used for admission to VNU-Hanoi's training units have also been announced. Accordingly, most of the subject/exam combinations are linked to the traditional exam blocks (A, A1, B, C, D) from the past, creating favorable conditions for candidates in their preparation and application process. For the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, besides continuing to consider candidates with valid VNU-Hanoi's 2015 and 2016 aptitude test results,all fields of studyThe selection process will consider the results of one of the following four combinations of subjects/exams in the national high school graduation exam:

+ Combination 1:Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (Combination code:A00)

+ Combination 2:Literature, History, Geography (Combination code:C00)

+ Combination 3:Mathematics, Literature, Foreign Language (Combination Code:D01, D02, D03, D04, D05, D06)

+ Combination 4:Literature, Foreign Languages, Social Sciences (Combination Code:D78, D79, D80, D81, D82, D83)

The specific information regarding admission to regular university programs in 2017 is as follows:

1. Admission area:Recruitment is open nationwide.

2. Eligibility Criteria:Students who have completed the high school program and graduated from high school in the year of registration for the entrance exam; those who have already graduated from high school; those who have graduated from vocational school and have a high school diploma; and those who have graduated from vocational school but do not yet have a high school diploma must study and be recognized as having completed the high school education program, provided they are not under disciplinary action, according to the regulations on admissions of the Ministry of Education and Training.

3. Admission methods:

– Phase 1:Admission is based on the results of the national high school graduation exam according to the corresponding subject/test combinations; valid results of the competency assessment exam organized by Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and international certificates from the Cambridge University Examination Centre, UK (Cambridge International Examinations A-Level, UK; hereinafter referred to as A-Level certificate).

Application period(expected)From July 17th to August 31st, 2017.

– Additional batch:Admissions will be conducted in the same manner as in Round 1. Specific admission regulations for each respective major will be announced on the university's website.(if any)Application period(expected)Before August 15, 2017.

4. National High School Examination Schedule:According to the National High School Graduation Examination schedule.

5. Direct admission, priority admission, and direct selection.

5.1 Direct admission for candidates specified in points c and e, clause 2, Article 7 of the current Admission Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training:

a) Subject:

– Candidates participating in the national team selection exam for the International Olympiad, or in the national team for the International Science and Engineering Fair, who have graduated from high school.

– Candidates who won first, second, or third prize in the national excellent student selection exam and have graduated from high school.

– Contestants who won first, second, and third prizes in the National Science and Technology Competition and have graduated from high school.

b) Quota: No limit on the number.

5.2 Direct admission for candidates specified in point i, clause 2, Article 7 of the current Admission Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training:

a) Subject:

– Candidates with permanent residence registration for 3 years or more, who have studied for 3 years and graduated from high school in poor districts (students attending ethnic minority boarding schools are considered based on their permanent residence registration), as of the date of application for admission according to the regulations in Resolution No. 30a/2008/NQ-CP dated December 27, 2008 of the Government on the Program to support rapid and sustainable poverty reduction for 61 poor districts and Decision No. 293/QĐ-TTg dated February 5, 2013 of the Prime Minister on targeted support from the central budget for 23 districts with high poverty rates, are eligible to apply the mechanism and policies for infrastructure investment as stipulated in Resolution No. 30a/2008/NQ-CP on the Program to support rapid and sustainable poverty reduction for 61 poor districts;

– Candidates who are members of ethnic minority groups with very small populations as defined by the Prime Minister's current regulations, and candidates from 20 poor border and island districts in the Southwest region.

5.3Direct admissionThe subjects specified in point g, clause 2, Article 7 of the current Admission Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training:

a) Subject:

Candidates with severe disabilities who have a disability certificate issued by a competent authority in accordance with regulations and who have graduated from high school are eligible.(The school does not have a training program specifically for visually or hearing impaired candidates).

b) Target: Not exceeding1%general criteria for each field of study.

5.4 Direct admission for students from specialized high schools at Vietnam National University, Hanoi:

a) Subject:

Students from the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences under the University of Natural Sciences and the High School for Gifted Students in Foreign Languages ​​under the University of Foreign Languages.

b) Quota: 50 places for all majors.

5.5 Direct admission for candidates with international certificates from the Cambridge University Examination Centre, United Kingdom (A-Level):

a) Subject:

Candidates use A-Level certificates to combine the results of 3 subjects according to the examination blocks specified for the corresponding training program. A score of 60/100 or higher in each subject (equivalent to a C grade, PUM range ≥ 60) is required to be eligible for admission consideration.

b) Quota: Not exceeding 5% of the total quota for each major.

5.6 Priority in admissionThe subjects specified in point a, clause 3, Article 7 of the current Admission Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training:

a) Subject:

Candidates who won first, second, or third prize in the national excellent student selection exam; won first, second, or third prize in the national science and technology competition; and have graduated from high school, with the combined exam/subject results used for admission meeting the quality assurance criteria for entry set by Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

b) Quota: No limit on quantity.

6. High-quality training program:After being admitted and enrolling, candidates have the opportunity to be directly admitted, given priority in the selection process, and admitted to high-quality training programs in Management Science, History, Linguistics, Psychology, Philosophy, and Literature if they meet the requirements stipulated by the University. Students receive financial support of 7.5 million VND/year and financial support for English language training to achieve at least Level 4 (B2) according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework used in Vietnam. Graduates receive a high-quality bachelor's degree.

7. Simultaneously pursuing two training programs (double degree):

After completing their first year, full-time students in standard training programs have the opportunity to pursue a second major in one of the following fields:

– Journalism, Oriental Studies (specializing in Korean Studies and Japanese Studies), Management Science, Tourism and Travel Service Management, International Studies, and Psychology at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

– English Language Department and Chinese Language Department of the University of Foreign Languages.

– Law Department of the Faculty of Law – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Students who complete the training program in both majors will receive two official bachelor's degrees.

8.The University of Social Sciences and Humanities does not yet have a special training program for visually or hearing impaired students.

9.Students can register to stay in the dormitory if needed.
