Ivan is the author of 11 books, has made three albums, four short films and is a renowned live performer. Ivan has been writer-in-residence at Simon Fraser University, Carleton University, Western University, the University of Winnipeg and the Vancouver Public Library, and has taught at universities and colleges across the continent and around the world. Ivan's books include:Loose End,Boys Like Her,Missed Her,Gender Failure, andTomboy Survival GuideIn 2017, Ivan was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws by Simon Fraser University for his work and activities.

Ivan often tackles the complex and intense personal issues of gender identity in his work, as well as topics like family, class, social justice and queer freedom, but always with the generous heart, quick wit and nuanced timing of a gifted storyteller. Ivan’s stories remind us that our own humanity is fallible and imperfect, and inspire us to change the world.
