In preparation for the 8th National Emulation Congress, on July 13, 2010, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities organized the 2nd Conference of Outstanding Exemplars.The conference aimed to evaluate the achievements, set forth directions and tasks to promote the patriotic emulation movement in the 2010-2015 period, and commend outstanding exemplary individuals. On behalf of the university leadership, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu - Permanent Vice Rector - presented a report summarizing the emulation and reward work in the 2005-2010 period and the direction of emulation and reward work in the 2010-2015 period. From 2005 to 2010, the emulation movement of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities was always promoted and achieved remarkable results in all fields. For many years, the University has continuously been recognized by the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi as an outstanding labor collective; awarded the Vietnam National University, Hanoi Emulation Flag in 2009; a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training in 2009; and a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister in 2007. The school received the Prime Minister's Emulation Flag in 2009. In addition, many exemplary individuals and advanced organizations were recognized and rewarded by leaders at all levels. Specifically, 21 collectives and 18 individuals received Labor Medals of various classes; 18 collectives and 22 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister; 61 collectives and 110 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; and 83 collectives and 254 Certificates of Merit from the Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. Furthermore, many collectives and individuals also achieved emulation titles at various levels. This contributed to motivating and encouraging the school's staff to be more voluntary and active in all activities. At the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duc Nghieu also presented the direction of emulation and reward work for the period 2010-2015. The 26th Party Congress of the University (2010-2015 term) set the goal of soon transforming the university into a research university with training and scientific research quality meeting regional standards, including developing several majors/specializations to meet international standards, making a significant contribution to national development. The aim is to be ranked among the top 400 universities in Asia by 2015. To achieve that goal, the school's emulation movement needs to focus on the following main points: Firstly, continue to thoroughly understand and strictly implement Directive 35/CT-TW and Directive 39/CT-TW of the Politburo on continuing to innovate and promote the patriotic emulation movement, linked with the campaign "Studying and following the moral example of Ho Chi Minh". Secondly, continue to implement in practice the Prime Minister's Directive and the Action Program of the Ministry of Education and Training on reforming the management of higher education in the period 2010-2012. Thirdly, continue to promote the emulation movement to excellently complete the school's political tasks and successfully achieve the goals set by the 26th Party Congress of the school. Based on the key tasks of each academic year, the school's Trade Union will preside over the annual emulation campaign at the Staff and Faculty Conference. Fourth, mass organizations continue to implement campaigns and emulation movements, focusing first on establishing regulations on discipline, cultural lifestyle, community awareness, and the brand of the school and Hanoi National University, in accordance with the mission and development goals of the school. The conference also heard presentations from representatives of units, collectives, and individuals with outstanding achievements, such as representatives of the school's Trade Union, the Philosophy Faculty, the Training Department, the Anthropology Museum, and Professor Tran Tri Doi, who presented papers and reports on their unit's emulation achievements over the past five years. Professor Vu Minh Giang – Vice Director of Hanoi National University – presented the Government's emulation flag to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities – one of the seven outstanding units to receive the Government's emulation flag. Professor Vu Minh Giang highly appreciated the achievements of the staff and faculty of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. At the same time, the units were encouraged to strive for even greater achievements, contributing to the overall development of the school in particular and the Vietnam National University in general. Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, on behalf of the school's leadership, received the contributions, delivered the concluding remarks of the conference, and launched the school's emulation movement for the period 2010-2015. The Rector emphasized that in the next five years, the tasks set for the school are immense, requiring teachers and students throughout the school to constantly strive and focus on promoting emulation in all activities to excellently fulfill the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State, the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and society.
