Regional Workshop to Attract Students

Over 100 delegates participated in the international workshop "Creating socio-economic activities to serve sustainable local development" at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the morning of April 7, 2010.
Over 100 delegates participated in the international workshop "Creating socio-economic activities to serve sustainable local development" at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities on the morning of April 7, 2010.The workshop was jointly organized by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and the University of Toulouse de Mirail (France). Using the case studies of Son La (Northwest Vietnam) and the Midi-Pyrenees region (France) for comparison, the presentations focused on addressing theoretical and practical issues to create socio-economic activities that serve sustainable development in Son La in particular and the Northwest region of Vietnam in general. Following the opening session, the workshop proceeded with discussions in two subcommittees. Subcommittee 1:"Planning and policies for socio-economic development of Son La and the Northwest region"This subcommittee focuses on assessing the potential, position, and challenges in the development of the economy, culture, society, territorial planning, mobility, and public transportation for Son La in particular and the Northwest region in general. From this, it seeks to find appropriate solutions for the development of this economic region. Subcommittee 2:"Sustainable Tourism, Handicrafts, Agriculture and Dairy Production"This subcommittee focuses on addressing, from both a theoretical and practical perspective, some of the strengths in economic development of Son La and the Northwest region. Within the framework of the workshop, delegates will have a four-day field trip to Moc Chau, Son La, from April 8th to 12th.
