11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis:

  • The research objective of this thesis is to clarify the current state of India's defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region during the period 2007-2024, thereby providing observations and making some recommendations for Vietnam's defense cooperation.

  • The research subject of this dissertation is India's defense cooperation, encompassing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation, limited to the Indo-Pacific region from India's perspective, covering the period from 2007 to 2024, and encompassing: state and ministerial-level visits; defense capacity building and joint exercises (including Air Force/Army/Navy); and aid and procurement of defense equipment with security partners.

  • This thesis is conducted using qualitative research methods combined with other research methods such as: historical research method, expert method, policy analysis method, discourse analysis method, analysis and synthesis method, case study method, and forecasting method.

 

Main results and new contributions of the thesis

  • Firstly, the thesis refines the concept and analytical framework of India's defense cooperation.

  • Secondly, the thesis provides a systematic and scientific picture of the current state of India's defense cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region in maintaining regional security and peace.

  • Thirdly, the dissertation utilizes a methodological framework in international relations to evaluate and systematize India's defense cooperation, particularly from the perspective of soft power. This is also a novel aspect of the dissertation, aiming to explain why India's image in the field of defense cooperation in international public opinion is consistently perceived as benevolent and positive.

Future research directions: Based on this topic, further research could include the role of India in the Southern Hemisphere, particularly in defense cooperation strategies such as "Adaptive Defense" and the Mahasagar Vision; and maritime security cooperation between Vietnam and India in the South China Sea.
